mrissa: (question)

One rejection. That's it.

Work on edits. Scattered work on ZH and short stories. I'm buckling down on the rock sprite story this afternoon. The burning question of the moment is, what's edible and the opposite of a pomegranate?

A potato is the opposite of a pomegranite. It's dry, not juicy; starchy, not sweet; white, not red; has no seeds opposed to having many seeds; grows underground as opposed to growing above ground.

There you go!

A pomegranate does indeed grow above ground.

I kind of wish it didn't, but as botany is unlikely to rearrange itself for the sake of this story, I will have to go with pomegranates growing above ground. And the potato may be just exactly it.

Ohhhhh...I think I'm okay with pomegranates growing above ground now. Got it. Fantasy story justifications....

Let me guess ... you're doing something with Persephone and Hades and the underworld and the pomegranite and all that?

Just a guess. Persephone is who I immediately think of when I think of pomegranites.

Actually, I'm doing something with a character who is trying to figure out why it worked for Persephone and what she [the character, not Persephone] can do to get time out on the surface.

Interesting! Hope it works out well for you. I just ran across your post while I was reading Nick Mamatas' journal, and the apposition of potato and pomegranate (hey! I spelled it right that time!) was just too distinct in my mind not to comment on it.

Rock on!

The Etanargemop? The momegranate? The mopegranate?

Mopegranate! It sounds to me like a pouty statue. Very cool, and may make a cameo in this story, but sadly not edible.

Cool! The question becomes is the statue pout for a good reason, or does it just appear to pout, or is it really pouting but has no ostensible reason. Of course, it should also carry a mop around to wipe up the tears--haha.

You two are evil. Now you've got me trying to figure out what kind of messes "etanarges" make.

Liquid ones, obviously, or the mop would be less effective.

Bah. There be dust mops too. But I was thinking more of whether an etanarge sheds hair or juice or crumbs.

A lump of rock salt. Mineral, not vegetable; colorless, not colorful; dry(and drying, when used) as opped to juicy.

opposed, that is, not opped. Although opp'ed sort of works.
