"The Six Skills of Madame Lumiere" is up at Beneath Ceaseless Skies. Go, read, enjoy. Inspired by [livejournal.com profile] elisem earrings of the same title, and also Louis Armstrong, the feel of raw silk, and various other things like that.

Fairy vegetables! ILU!

I will now finish the story. But I just had to pause for squee.

I had the exact same reaction. Well, mine was more like, fairy rutabagas! Best line ever! Close enough, though.

I am glad that everybody who has said they liked it, liked it. But I am particularly glad you did because of the part you played in making it happen with the earrings and all. So good then.

I haven't even finished it yet, but I already have to comment.

“If you knew what mattered, you would not be here asking for my assistance, would you?”

That line made me laugh, because it's the sort of thing that I've wanted to say in so many tech support situations....

Oooh. That sucked me in like a novel does--you built the world amazingly well in such little space. I enjoyed that very much, thank you for writing it!

I'm not even halfway through and I'm enthralled.

OK, back to it.

"Unexpected ocean." You're not so bad at this writing stuff, are you?

By which I mean that was a lovely little marvel of a story. Loved it from start to finish.

I was charmed by all of it, but I particularly admired how deftly you imply a great deal more world and history behind the story with compact but evocative details. The Yoke and Nail, for instance. And the way the realms of the fairies interact with the world seem just exactly right, which isn't necessarily easy to pull off. I've seen it done badly.

I very much liked this. The little turns of phrase that had a witty/humorous twist. And the way it feels like the world spreads out in all directions from this story. Does it want to be more?

Noooooooo.

Which, you will note, is sadly different from, "No."

I could sit for more of that kind of story all day.

One thing I was curious about, though, was that the housekeeper said the daughters wouldn't forget, but when Lucy repeated it, she said they were ready. Did I miss something?

I enjoyed the heck out of this story. If I were to try and itemize the reasons why, it would rapidly descend into squeeful babbling, so I won't. But this was a blast to read.

My favorite part
