I shattered the giraffe.

This is not a euphemism.

Poor giraffe. Is the Mris ok?

Yes, am fine, other housemammals are fine. I just hate breaking stuff.

I do too! It's completely reasonable. I particularly hate that split second in between the moment when you know it's inevitable and there's nothing you can do to stop it and the actual crash. I hate that moment profoundly.

Have you ever had a moment when you've just realised that if you move towards the thing that's falling you stand a chance of breaking its fall, but instinct makes you shy away instead?

*sympathy*

I am going to hope that this means only the giraffe was damaged, not you or the guys.

Yah, we are fine, and we have other giraffes. Frustrating, though.

I'm sorry. I wish it were an euphemism, because then it would at least have a chance of describing something enjoyable....

I dunno -- what my brain thinks "giraffe" should stand for really ought not to be shattered . . . .

Well, along that same track of thinking, I could see the opposite. Considering that the giraffes are mostly associated with a particular housemammal, and "shattered" can be a figurative state as opposed to a literal one, there could be a scenario in which particularly exuberant behaviours lead to that. In a good way.

For me, it falls into the category of "metaphors that sound painful."

See also, why romance sex scenes often make me either cringe or howl with laughter.
