It's going to be hard to top the one where the clown kills the mathematician, but I'm sure they'll try.

(Also: insufficient Cho! I mean, granted, I would watch Agent Cho, His Girlfriend, and His Dead Best Friend's Gran. Especially if it was on after Everybody Loves Reid's Mom. But seriously, one Cho-heavy episode is nothing like enough.)

I like Cho's character, but I prefer Van Pelt for screen time.

Now ask yourself: why might the two of us vary on this point?

(Seriously, I was very pleased with Van Pelt getting to do more field work this season, especially when she turned out to be a quite competent pursuit driver.)

I'm choosing to see it as a failure of some sort on your part.

However, I will concede that Cho's character is much better. But I don't think Van Pelt is really meant as anything but scenery.

Also, I don't think the writers even know what they're doing with Red John at this point. It's all over the place and it seems like everyone is in on it as soon as they're off camera.

Yah, I don't know. I only watch on DVD, so I haven't seen any of S3, but the place where they were with Red John at the end of S2 seemed like it was trying to open things up and instead made them seem a bit incoherent. So I am planning to watch S3, but I'm not sure the Red John stuff won't be terminally dumb.

(Seriously, William Blake? I am having a Bull Durham moment here: what do they mean, William Blake?)

I'd totally watch Everybody Loves Reid's Mom. Especially if Reid's ex-boyfriend had a recurring role, and Morgan's Mom and Sisters were the wacky family next door.

Maybe Matt Li, FBI Special Agent What Does Funny Voices could have the ten pm slot?

I know not Matt Li. Is from where?

Morgan's elder sister is Wallace's mom, so then Wallace could be on there, and that would be awesome too.

Also we had someone picked out as the person who brought Reid's Mom medieval manuscripts there in her institution, but I forget who it was.

Right, yes, thank you! Far better use of him.

He's Matt Yang King's occasionally-recurring character on Numb3rs. Excruciatingly handsome and talented Asian fellow with astounding cheekbones.

Also, my editor's nephew, if I have the relationship correct--that's the same King as in Tappan.

Oh right! I liked him. He did not recur enough, and now Numb3rs is over. Sigh. (Although I really felt they'd finished their run by the end of S6.)

I haven't made it to the end yet. It is doing a nice job of being there as comfort food, so I don't want to hurry through the box, so to speak.

I will report back.

Reid's Mom does not recur enough, either.

Is so true.

And if you'd told me Jane Lynch would have a major role on a TV series, I would have done a happy dance. And, um. I saw enough of Glee in the hospital waiting room when my grandmother's appendix ruptured to be able to tell that it is Not For Me At All. Very, very, very sad. Because I do like Jane Lynch.

I'm waiting for the version of Glee that is only Jane Lynch's scenes.

There is definitely not enough Cho.

The Red John stuff doesn't get any better in S3. Sigh.

I soooo agree about Cho, but you probably knew that.

I really wish they would just kill off Red John and move on. I don't think--and apparently numerous other watchers agree--that the plot line is nearly as intriguing as the writers seem to think it is.

I agree. I think "what does Patrick do after Red John?" is a more interesting question. Or at least potentially so.

"Everybody Loves Reid's Mom"

I did a bit of a double-take on that one. It would probably help if I had ever seen the show in question...

On Criminal Minds, Dr. Spencer Reid's mother is a brilliant and mentally ill medievalist. She is played by Jane Lynch, and she manages to be funny in the "this woman is managing to be funny despite the stuff life has piled on her" way rather than "haha, disabilities are funny" way.
