mrissa: (out with friends)

I said to myself, "They won't put me on a panel. They never do, and it's big names, and I'm okay with that."

And then Shimmer and Fantasy both said, "We're doing short readings! Do you want to?" And I said, "Sure!" So I will be packing short-shorts to read on Saturday afternoon for them. And I thought, "Well, that'll be nice. Read something short and funny, sit down, hang out with other people reading short things (also possibly funny)."

And then people on my friendslist were finding their panels on the schedule, so I thought I would look, and lo! Lo! Not only am I on a panel. I am moderating the first panel.

Gosh.

I hope my plane's not late.

Pacific 1: When I Was a Kid, We Didn’t Have . . . Rights.

Why are dystopian societies dominating YA fiction at the moment? What are they speaking that kids need to say? Do teens, despite all their networking sites and internet opportunities to gathering power for a cause and informing many people almost instantly, still feel they have no control? Not since the 1970s has there been such distrust emanating from fantasy and adventure fiction for the young. What societal factors are causing this surge?

Dangit, I already have to choose between one friend's panel and another friend's reading. <shakes fist at heavens>

Yah, the panel description is trying to carry on an argument with the audience and/or panelists preemptively. Well, we shan't let it.

I hope you'll report on that panel. I was quite curious about it, even though my first response was, "Are you sure it's about social factors?"

I definitely do intend to make a partial con report including a panel report. I have been exhausted and swamped, but it's coming!
