So. I'm going to WorldCon. I had kind of thought I would be -- I was almost sure I would be -- it seemed likely I would be. Then somewhere along the line it changed over from "I probably will" to "I'm going to, but let's see if Stella can go, and if she can't I'll buy her membership so she doesn't have to waste that much money." And Stella can go. So I went and bought myself a membership. Got the confirmation number and everything. I'm going.

So who else will be there? Who wants to have lunch/dinner/cuppa coffee/heartfelt conversation/silly joking/happy parties/interesting panels with me? Anybody? Hello out there? I'm friendly. I'm nice. I don't bite except on request, and sometimes not even then, depending. Early on, Stella said I know everybody. I don't know everybody! Sometimes I think I won't know anybody! Reassure me that I'll know somebody or at least will have somebody who wants to meet me! Please?

Okay, that's useful to know: everybody look for the girl with the spinning head. That'll be me.

Will I know you? Or will you be somewhere else?

Go Flames indeed. We'll miss Game 3 tomorrow night, because we're going to a play called "The Golem." But I'd sure like to see a sweep....

Rant Rant Ranty Rant.

Oh, I don't know if I'm going yet or not. If I do, it will be a last minute seat of my pants thing - hey, I got a thousand bucks, whoo!

probably won't happen.

There's no hockey today! Here I was assuming I was going to at least get the Philly game, but noooo.

and the calgary game isn't on until Ten Eastern...you might get to see the end. one thing that I've noticed so far is that the flames are not only on track to sweep, they're on track to annihilate - the sharks have not held the lead for even one second so far.

No, no, because I push you at people and say, "People! This is the Stella! Stella! This is the people!" And then you can be charming and funny and I can sit back and listen.

Yes? No? Maybe? Maybe we will take turns. We can set up a charming-and-funny schedule. If Hannah is following you around, we can pencil her in as well.

When Mark's friend Vince was over for dinner out in California, he kept up a running monolog that had us all in stitches. But he kept reminding us periodically: "It's been ten minutes now, you're going to owe me ten minutes....okay, I've been entertaining you for fifteen minutes, I'm due fifteen in return...." When he was done, he sat back and folded his arms expectantly. But then his girlfriend announced a headache, so we didn't have to see if he actually would demand 35 minutes worth of charming-and-funny from each of us.

Ah, but they don't know her as the stella, they know her as the S. She's incognito.

Yay!

I shall follow the Stella around and around until she leads me to you.

Unless that would be scary. In which case I'll wander off on my own.

What, I'm good enough to follow around at Wiscon, but not at Worldcon?

Of course I'll follow you around. But I figure the Stella is a bit more likely to lead me to the Mris. Maybe you can follow her, too.

Bah. We will be so cool that the M'ris will find *us*.

You and I have our own pictures posted of ourselves what look like. Unless Hannah looks like a bouncy yellow thing, I don't think I will find her very easily.

There is that funny WorldCon thing where you go squinting at people's namebadges as you pass them, just in case they're someone you know but don't know you know. I suppose that might work.

Hannah looks...very Hannah-ish. Actually, come to think of it, she probably has a superficial resemblence to a M'ris. (In the first stage of description, where you say, "well, she's about so tall, and she has brown straight hair and she's skinny." Except I don't remember how tall she is.)

I'm going--but I'm one of Stella's roomies, so I'm *really* glad she's going (among other things).

Yay! To hang out with people and talk about writing and reading and not-writing and not-reading schtuff.

I should be there, seeing as I'm currently living in Boston (and working about 10 minutes walk from the place it will be held, but I may have a real job elsewhere by then. I'm hoping I'll even know where I'm living by then. And I may have friends who are coming to hang out in the bar and abuse other people's membership priveleges. ;)

Mentioned this to you earlier, but unless I want to work the San Diego Comic Con and then turn around and spend every cent I earned on going to Worldcon... its probably not going to happen.

Pity, really. I think this last year is the first time that I've really understood why people enjoy going to major conventions so much.

Yah, I think if asked to describe why cons are a good thing, my answer would likely be "Alec." (Or "Zed" or "WendyanDaniel" or whomever I was thinking of at the time.) It's the idea that even if your friends move and you move and you live half- or whole-continents away or even oceans away, there'll still be events you can both attend, and there they'll be. I never seriously wonder, "Will I ever see Alec again?" Because of course I will. Because there are cons.
