1. I need to think like Paarfi of Roundwood to enjoy Melissa Etheridge songs.

2. Ed is the H.G. Wells of Gustavus CS grads. (Timprov: "And I'm stuck being Orson Welles.")

3. Kieran's is the place to go if you want to watch them roll up Samuel Beckett.

4. I apparently bore a child named Sydney to a man named Bruce Gritters (asst. city atty. for Mpls.?) last fall. This is a surprise to all of us, particularly me, but my college's alumni magazine does know best, I suppose.

We were going along so well until #4 showed up....

hey, I think #4's interesting. All I've learned from my college lately is that there are an *obscene* number of kids from my class living within 3 hours of the college. I'm considering asking for an electronic copy of the list they printed out for us so I can get my dad to run it through a mapping program he has and I can see the exact geographical distribution. Which I really really want to see now, because I'm weird like that.

One of my pieces of advice to a younger friend this weekend was to pick her college carefully and pay attention to where the grads ended up, because there was a strong likelihood that's where she'd be living or visiting. Sometimes it's not the college's actual location -- my cousin went to Drake in Des Moines, for example, and many of her friends moved to Chicago after college. But it's a strong influence.

Reason #673 why I love Minneapolis: all my Gustie friends. Reason #674: a bazillion other liberal arts colleges feeding into the same city environment.

The "author" of Steven Brust's The Phoenix Guards and its sequels. They rock.

"We were going along so well until #4 showed up...."

At least you found out now, before tuition bills started showing up.

Hey, any fictitious children I have can go to state schools, dammit. I'll shell out for private schools for the real ones, but a fictitious parent does have to draw the line somewhere.
