I'm revising Sampo some more. Are babies denser than cedar or less dense?

[livejournal.com profile] timprov thinks I should also ask if they weigh the same as a duck, in case none of you know the answer to the other.

Depends upon the duck

Mandarin or Peking? Wood or black? Muscovy or Mallard?

I'm sure there's a "population density" gag in here somewhere.

He's not stupid, he just has selective areas of expertise.

Well, most babies do, really, but he will continue to as an adult.

Dry cedar is lighter than human flesh. Less than half as dense.

Much denser, according to this list:

First number is specific gravity, second lbs/in^3, third lbs/ft^3, and I don't know why they didn't put in the lbs/in^3 for flesh:

Flesh, Human 0.99-1.07 / / 61-67 This is the average density of a human body with breath exhaled (density drops to 56-62 lbs/cu foot if you inhale). Lower figures reflect relatively more body fat (which is lighter than bone and muscle).

Cedar, red 0.38 / 0.014 / 24

I'd just like to note that friends with Google and nothing much to do at the moment are the best research assistants ever.

It occurs to me that I have a baby in my living room, and a cedar tree outside. In case you're wanting empirical data. *evil g*
