Do any of you wake up some days feeling more gendered than others?

I'm pretty girly most of the time. I am not what one would call androgynous, ever, physically or otherwise. But some mornings -- like this one -- I just feel more female than usual.

It's not an "I float as the clouds of air do" sort of thing. I'm not going to go shopping or mess with my hair or do something stereotypically girly like that. This is still a pink-free zone. And if I bake something, it'll be because I feel like it, not because it feels femmey to me. (In my family, I'd probably start messing with the plumbing or doing some carpentry if I wanted to feel traditionally female.)

Still, waking up feeling more female or more consciously female...it's weird. Is it just me? Do you get this sometimes, too?

No, I think that is useful data. Because, as I said, it's not about living out female stereotypes, it's just a back-of-the-head feeling.

(Hmm. Now I'm thinking about determined tomboys inhabiting female stereotypes. Just differet ones.)

The waking up thing is probably beside the point, though.

Nope, I don't wake up feeling any more female than usual. I have moments of feeling more "fashion aware" than usual, but I don't link that with gender because men can primp just as well as women.

Some days I wake up better looking in my own head than other days. I know, intellectually, that how I look varies only slightly -- paler some days than others, darker circles under my eyes, less energy in my expression, etc. but generally the same body type and facial features -- but in my head it varies a good deal. I have "pretty days" and "hot days" and "ugly days." And how "fashion aware" I behave has a good deal to do with that.

I agree with you that it's not really a gender thing, though.

Heh. I slept in old physics-themed T-shirts the last two nights running. Although in some families that may be considered feminine.

something to that effect

ok, female, no, but rather something other than male. it's more like a range of animals that i use for my own scale, a device that would have many considerations, except that it is limited to just a range of animals that traditionally represent how i might be feeling for the day. each are equally male, equally present in my everyday life as some form of motivation or another. a wolf (hunting/stalking a quarry), a lion (regal, divine, even condescending), a silverback gorilla (usually in the throws of reproductively-inclined passion), and a warthog/boar(post athletic activity smell). there are more, like some quick killerwhale while i swim, or a grizzlybear (when i like to roll around on my back).

there is no science to it. i just have some feeling from the dreams i had the night before or the last dream i had, and it becomes a baseline for how i might act, which always changes once the occassion actually arises.

anyways. sorry to interrupt.

i forgot, sometimes i feel like a range of people too. either a andrew dice clay/sam kinneson/dennis leary blend or something heroic, either schwarzenegger or james bond, or sometimes a tired old aristocrat or urgent drill instructor. various types i'll stick to for most of a day or week. also depends on the people i'm around. i adapt to what they would react to best. when i worked for sears, i was everyone's untapped knowledge, like the guy they needed to check with for what was most appropriate to the task.

sorry, again.
