Last night we sat down at "Princess Ida" at about 7:55 for an 8:00 show. I turned off my cell phone, like you do, and I said to [livejournal.com profile] markgritter, "Well, we could have a niece or nephew in the next two or three hours and not know it." He agreed that indeed we could.

And we did! Amber Lynn* Greenfield was born at 8:20, one time zone ahead of us, so we just barely missed the call. She is 7# 14oz, 20". We are told that she has her Grandma Linda's nose. Jeff didn't actually say that [livejournal.com profile] seagrit was doing well, but I'm pretty sure he would have remembered to tell us if she wasn't, and his voice would have sounded different.

[livejournal.com profile] markgritter said I must have been exhausted not to put anything on my lj last night, and indeed I was. I just went to bed and cried a little in happiness. Amber, sweet little one, every baby born on this Earth should be as wanted as you.

*ETA: We weren't sure of the spelling when I posted this, but now we know.

Yes. :)

Congrats on being an Auntie. I find that Aunt is the best job of all. I have 18 nieces and nephews, so I know these things.

Oof! There's no way I will ever get 18 nieces and nephews by blood or marriage: [livejournal.com profile] seagrit is the only one of [livejournal.com profile] markgritter's three sibs who's currently married, and at least one of the other two has said he doesn't want kids. People always say, "That'll change," but I know from looking at my friends that quite often it does not, and that it's a choice to be respected.

My mom has fifty-some first cousins. I have two, and one of them is not in a circumstance to have children of his own. My mom's an only child, too, though.

You are actually the first and only person to bring that up so far; thanks so much.

Being an only child, I can only conjecture that auntiehood or unclehood brings you that much closer to parenthood :P

Congratulations-- sounds like she likes being unpredictable. March meant a baby, but April means her.

Does it really? We've had 10#ers in my family, so it sounds like a thoroughly midsize baby to me.

Yay, baby Amber -- congratulations to all of you!

And because I am a Gilbert and Sullivan geek, how was "Princess Ida"?

(And I agree, under 8 lbs sounds pretty average for baby weight, but I could just know people who birth large babies...)

Congrats. I've got 8 nieces and nephews and thoroughly enjoy them.

Aporopos of nothing, Amber Lynn sounds remarkably like Anne Boleyn when you say it aloud.

Anybody who attempts to decapitate my niece is going to have to answer to me. And it won't be pretty.

I'm the only auntie so far on the Gritter side. [livejournal.com profile] seagrit has only brothers, and Dan and [livejournal.com profile] mattgritter are unmarried. On the Greenfield side, Jeff also has only brothers, but both of his living brothers are married, so Amber has two aunties there. Plus several great-aunties and a couple of great-great-aunties.

Googling

I googled Amber Lynn Greenfield and found your live journal and Marks - I knew about Sarahs. From the grandma whose nose has been passed down to the 2nd generation.

Should I out Matt's, too, then? He's at [livejournal.com profile] mattgritter.

We're all very sneaky and hard to find. It's only a matter of time until Daniel joins us.

Now I know why I hardly ever get e-mail from my sons - they are too busy writing in their livejournals!

I couldn't tell you. I decided years ago not to be responsible for one of your sons' correspondence, much less all of theirs!
