50!

I just made my 50th short story sale! Aeon wants to buy "Michael Banks,
Home from the War," and I am more than pleased to sell it to them.

This is not the "best rewrite request ever," but it was a pretty darn good rewrite request. Aeon did a great job with the illos etc. to "Things We Sell to Tourists," so I'm delighted to sell them another story.

Also, 50 seems like, well, a thing.

Because you and I friended each other some time back, I am now in the position of knowing you far better as a person than I do as a writer. (I haven't even tried to keep current with science fiction or fantasy in years; when I read s-f or fantasy, it's usually pulling an old magazine off the shelf and reading it cover to cover.) And there's also the simple reality that I'm not a writer any more myself. (My track record is, five stories in some kind of print, one of them twice; Betsy Mitchell, presently at Del Rey Books, wanting me to finish my novel; one collaborative article to a now-defunct magazine, about 30 years ago.) So my once-sincere attempts at staying networked with people I perceived as "fellow writers" weren't going to accomplish anything regardless. Still, I perceive your 50 sales as an extremely big deal, largely because that is so much more than I ever accomplished. Keep up the good work!

I'm pretty sure there are several people on lj in the Mpls area who know me a lot better as a person than as a writer, or at least who have read a lot more about my writing than they have read of my writing. Lj is kind of like that.

I used to think of things in terms of networking with fellow writers, but then I decided I was a lot more interested in talking to cool people, some of whom happened to be fellow writers. So.
