Too many quizzes, and too many more serious "instruments" of "research" for that matter ask questions of the form "X or Y" such that the only sensible answer is "No."

And we deal with rhetorical questions of that nature all the time. You can ask people, "Would you prefer to lose your right arm or your left?" and they will start in, "Well, I'm right-handed, but I strained it when I lifted that thing that time, and it's kind of ached since..." rather than saying, "Neither! Don't cut my arm off!"
