One depressing thing about those novels, though, is the number of Travis' female friends who don't make it through more than one or two book. Actually, a lot of his male friends don't make it through more than one or two books, but I tend to notice the women more.
Which ones have you read? (I reread MacDonald books as comfort books; I like his slightly didactic interludes, and how his thoughts evolved over the decades.)
Well, see, mine was the only female posterior within reach. Your environment is twice as rich in possibilities, just on an average day when nobody comes over and not counting skinny kidbutt.
I see. In that case, should I ever read the books, I shall be certain not to do so when we're going to have lunch together, for fear of making an embarrassing social gaffe.
I have no idea how I stumbled across the McGee books, but I've been rereading them for ages now. The relationship between McGee and Meyer is one of the best-drawn friendships I've ever seen, and I love the adventure/thriller stuff combined with the more philosophical musings. They're such satisfying books. I think there are only one or two of them that I just don't enjoy much, and decided not to keep on my shelves.
I believe Miss Manners would murmur something like, "I am sorry to hear that" or even, "How unfortunate." With the possible implication that it was "how unfortunate that you chose to share that with me."
