The true north strong and free
Jul. 1st, 2006 02:36 pmHappy Canada Day to everyone who can properly pronounce phrases such as, "out and about in a boat"! And thank you for giving us one singable national anthem at hockey games, at least!
(And neither "about" nor "a boat" is the same thing as "a boot" in an up-north accent. Phoneticization of accents is usually a vast and silly oversimplification.)
Do you know what they do for Canada Day? They let small children climb around on dragon-shaped play structures! And then there's ice cream!
Maybe that was just the one time I was there, but it sure made an impression.

Date: 2006-07-05 08:45 pm (UTC)Do you know what I did this Canada Day? Was outside in a thunderstorm, and then had my car's windshield wiper fall off! I made faces. But it was up by the cottage, and I spent the rest of the day outside, talking to friends and writing, and then listening to the sound of fireworks and thunder ... and it was good. I was a happy Karina.
