Story sale
Jul. 22nd, 2004 05:14 pmOn May 1, 2000, I sent out the first three stories of the official beginning of my writing career: "Anna's Implants," "The Flask of Today," and "Harry Behrens." I had sent out "Harry Behrens" once before that, almost a year before. I had sent out a few stories I have now trunked. "Harry" sold. "Flask" sold. "Anna"...has been circulating. Slowly, slowly, slowly. Since May 1, 2000, it has only been to 17 markets. Some closed underneath it. I send stories back out within a few days of when they get rejected. Editors take awhile. Other stories I wrote after these sold -- "Irena's Roses" and "Making It Home" and others, others, others.
Today "Anna's Implants" sold.
"Challenging Destiny," the nice Canadians who published "Dark Thread," decided they wanted it.
This makes me so happy I can hardly tell you. I believed in this story. I believed in this story for years. I workshopped it. I edited it. I loved it. Now someone else believes in it, too.
There is A Message In This, if I choose to see one.
