Two rejections this week, one acceptance. I remember saying that I'd be happy with that ratio. I still am.

Finished "Docile Bodies" and worked on Sampo draft and Thermionic Night edits. And actually took my day off on Sunday like I was supposed to. (And will again tomorrow.)

Minneapolitans, reminder: my birthday picnic is tomorrow lunchtime and after. If you're coming, that's when you should come, and I don't have to know you well (or even recognize you in person) to welcome you. I've said noon, but we'll probably get there a little early to secure picnic tables etc. We are unlikely to look for you there early unless you've indicated that you might get there early. So if you're going to be there earlier than noon, please either let me know to look for your faces or please please look for ours.

I have already had a Godiva chocolate from the box Dave and Lin ([livejournal.com profile] markgritter and [livejournal.com profile] seagrit's parents) sent, because one doesn't ruin good chocolate just because it's not the proper day. And I have been taken to lunch by C.J.'s mom, because she wouldn't be able to return for tomorrow. And just now I got serenaded over the phone: "Hap' birffay, Missa!" says Roo, and then he sings, "Hap' birffay you, happy birffday, you, hap' birfay -- no! No, Nellnuhnor!" Or something like that. It was a very good serenade. [livejournal.com profile] porphyrin promises me the encore tomorrow.

[livejournal.com profile] markgritter and I have already been to the farmer's market and will be going to Byerly's in a few minutes, and then I'll be cooking and baking and cooking and baking.

My birthday itself is Monday. But family policy is clear on this matter: much celebration required.

Mmmph. I was hoping I'd be able to come, but it looks like the thing I need to be at is going to be running noon to 4pmish, which is Exactly The Wrong Timing. If we finish early, though, I will try and swing by.

However, best wishes for wonderful birthday, and a fantastic next year. As requested, here are a couple of my favorite things about the Cities.

1) Lavender gelato at the place in Calhoun Square. Is yummy.

2) The carousel up at Como Park. I feel like I'm 6 years old again, every time I ride it, and that is not a bad feeling. At least for 10 minutes. It's a good "Oh, yes!" pickmeup.

3) Erm. I'm sure I have more. But 2 is good for now.

Como Park carousel is on my good list, too. I haven't tried the place in Calhoun Square yet, but it's on my "to try" list.

Two is indeed good for now, and one more than I asked for!

Exactly the wrong timing indeed. Ah well. These things happen.

Happy birthday. Don't think I'll make it to your picnic; hope you understand.

Earlier in the week, [livejournal.com profile] timprov said to me, "Do you have any idea who's coming? Besides [your full names]; of course they're coming."

I mean, hey, we're having it at the Falls. I don't know what better incentive one could offer K. (What? France is a better incentive than the Falls? How can this be?)

I know, I know.

I believe David and I are coming, and I'd be a bit surprised if Lydy weren't.

I'm hoping to put together some hummos and maybe some skordalia, but we'll see about energy levels and whether the garlic has sprouted too vigorously.

We have some vegan stuff along with the rest, so while I'm sure whatever you bring will be lovely, we'll also make sure you don't starve. (And as usual, I don't serve things I don't like, so it's no trouble to make sure you aren't left to your own devices. California living makes vegan options pretty automatic for me.) See you tomorrow!

Barring wificide for forgetting what day it was and putting everyone in the car and driving to the Falls *today* instead of *tomorrow*, Elle and Roo and I will be there.

Wandering and looking lost.

Two of my favorite things about the Cities:

1) The St. Paul Urban Trails, which can be accessed from Lexington & Dale area and feature miles of trail linking several parks, and lots and LOTS and LOTS of blackberries and wild raspberries.

2) Fort Snelling State Park, and the hike around Pike's Island.

Two of Roo's favorite things:

1) The Trains At Bandana Square, which he can watch for hours.

2) Wild Rumpus. Because, well. Miceandcatsandchickensandferretandbirdsandspidersandbooksandcatsanddidwementionthecats?

I have only done one of those things! One! And I haven't been to the Test Gardens! (Or the Eloise Butler...but that's another story entirely.)

But I also have a list of stuff we need to do with you-plural percolating in my beady little brain. It's good to have ideas.

Have you tried Murphy's Landing? I always loved it as a kid and I still do, especially at Christmas when they decorate all the houses for the holidays. My kids like it, but I haven't been back in a couple years.
