The post from my ToCmate [livejournal.com profile] swan_tower reminded me that the new issue of Aberrant Dreams is up, with my story Silent Teraphim right there in it.

I tried to write three or four different disclaimers, but the truth I have to say here is: it's a story. It is a fantasy story. It is not attempting to convert anyone to any kind of theism, any more than Sampo is meant to make you go digging under hills in northern Finland or Dwarf's Blood Mead is to convince you that you ought to cut people to bits for Odin. (People who have read DBM are now snickering up their sleeves at the very thought.)

And it's also actually got a love story. Written by me. With a love story in it. That I wrote.

I am at least as confused as you are, I assure you.

Thank you. I really enjoyed that. (What's with the sudden discovery of nephilim by everyone -- not you, you were probably sculpting them out of playdough in kindergarten, but everyone else who seems to have just jumped on the nephilim bandwagon recently -- these days?) I could tell it was a [livejournal.com profile] mrissa story from the evocative use of smells. :-)

Also I cannot quite shake the mental image of winged-tortoise gods....

Thanks! I didn't realize nephilim had gotten trendy, though.

Very cool! I loves me some stories that riff on lesser-known corners of culture and history.

And I like theater spirits, too, so everybody's happy!

I think I too if I had the job of "god" might like to change what I was "god" of. Being a cat "god" as a new thing would be cool. Ook to the above comments, very rikki tikk story, indeed.

I keep saying if I was God, I would overuse the smite button, so maybe being god of something different and non-smitey would help.

Ooooh, I liked the story. And Dinah. And her conversation with God made me smile.

Thank you!

I think I have more to say with Dinah in it, but it was hard enough to sell as a short story that I will put it waaaaay down the priority list as a novel. (People were rejecting it on the grounds of being too "Christian," and also on the grounds of being not "Christian" enough. SIGH.)
