Four rejections. Two of them on the same story.

Also, for anyone who wanted it (including but not limited to Moi), my Spanish rice recipe. Don't try to make it without saffron. It's one of those things that just really can't be done without saffron, like lussekatter.

The hot tub is currently doing its initial high-chlorine cycle. We're about to start draining it, at which point we will rinse it, refill it, and let it start heating. We're still waiting for them to deliver the step so we can get into the silly thing without pitching in headfirst, but I'm perfectly willing -- and, to the point, able to be a pest about that for as long as it proves necessary. I promise that I will not continue to give status reports on the hot tub once it's settled in ("only five more days until I clean the filter!"). It's just lovely to be seeing this kind of progress, finally.

It's been a week for progress, apparently. A lot of the things that had been sitting on my to-do list week after week are gone. The last load of laundry should be taken out of the dryer any minute now. There is, of course, plenty on my list for next week -- but it's not all the same stuff as last week, and that's a good feeling.

Oh ye of the delicious recipe I can almost smell: What do ye (doth thou?) recommend as a protein? Or should this be eaten on its own?

I would eat it on its own. I would eat it with Cuban black bean soup dumped over it. I would eat it with grilled andouille. I would eat it with grilled andouille and Cuban black bean soup. I would eat it with regular chicken. I would eat it with Yucatan chicken. I would eat it in a box. I would eat it with a fox....

Ah, good. I just didn't want to dishonor it somehow with the wrong pairing. But if foxes are ok, then I'm guessing my shredded chicken idea will be just fine. Mmmmmmmm.

Dishonoring food is not really something that registers very well for me. I come from a line of fiddlers-with-recipes. I consider it the best form of honoring a recipe of mine, to make it into something completely different.

Hi there. I just wanted to say thank you for posting that Spanish Rice recipe. Also, the Bomber Bar recipe that I, ah, just happened to stumble across while supposedly looking at the main dishes. I made both for a potluck dinner this past weekend and they were hits. I've also been eating leftover Spanish rice as a base for scrambled eggs and finding it lovely (if you like that sort of thing).

I was also greatly entertained by the potato salad commandments.
