If you see fit to inform me that you find most of my friends unattractive, do not be surprised if I tell you that they haven't precisely been beating the door down in search of your phone number, either.

Honestly. Some people's kids.

how does one arrive in a conversational area where condemnation of your friends list at large seems the proper way to proceed?

Sideways, snidely, and by shallow discussion of artwork, apparently.

(While many of the people on my friendslist are my friends and many of my friends have ljs, I did mean friends as in cordial, amiable people closer than acquaintances, not friends as in reading list on lj.)

I was overwhelmed by context, I suppose. :)

I keep forgetting to tell you how much I love your icons.

And seriously.

Thanks! Nothing looks more like me tired or kicking ass or asking questions than...well, me. Doing those things.

I've always known you have a leg up on something.

Umm, I need to mention it's a very nice leg too.

I don't think that actually does qualify as a need, but thanks all the same.

Since the only people who have ever said something like that to me were my 11-months-younger brother when we were teenagers and my younger daughter during her teen years (which she is still in), I wonder whether your reference to "kids" is literal (i.e., a young person). If not, one might posit a juvenile approach to life...

One might. Since the person in question is into his fourth decade on this planet, not his second.

I'm impressed that anyone would even consider saying something like that about your friends. That really takes some level of arrogance, apart from which it assumes that an important consideration in choosing your friends is looks.

At any rate, I'm with you on the "some people's kids" front.

Heathah

I know, it's totally shallow to assume that looks are an important consideration in choosing my friends!

Also, my friends are hot, so that's another problem with it, right there!

(Being silly is a good way to cope with being annoyed, I find.)

Yipes. Absent the assumption that it is your job to befriend and corral attractive-by-zir-definition people for this person's benefit, I cannot imagine what could possibly make anybody that that that was a reasonable observation to make aloud.

The person in question has displayed previous difficulties with inside vs. outside voice.

Use your inside voice. That's the "inside your head" voice. --[livejournal.com profile] snippy, 2006/07/12

(I got to use my quotesfile to look up something I wanted to quote! I've never done that before.)

Yes, that'd be the inside vs. outside I meant. Except I'd heard it before July from some other source (who might have had it from your [livejournal.com profile] snippy earlier).

I don't even have a hawp, so clearly I can't be a bawd.

I suspect it wasn't relevant, except in the speaker's head.

Some time back, a then-Mnstfer explained to me why he intended to move to San Francisco. In Minneapolis, all the U of MN coeds were dating Black men out of liberal guilt. But in San Francisco, with a high percentage of gay men, the women would be available to him.

I fought down the urge to point out that some of those San Francisco women were lesbians. He was not someone I wanted to discourage from moving.

I almost missed this post, it was so short... I'm glad I didn't.

Bwahahahahaha. I love your inside voice, indeed I do.

While I am confounded by a certain shallowness and some appearance based minimums when it comes to my own sex life (Which falls under the category of: One of Life's Mysteries - Not Very Important), I've never placed an aesthetic requirement upon who could and could not be my friend. And it's never even occurred to me to comment on the looks of my friend's friends... Unless it was something that they were particularly proud of: "Goddamn that Critter fellow is an ugly cuss..." and so on.
