Yep. It was the back.

Also, what's the weather like in Austin, TX, in early November?

According to Google, the average temperature if 58.9 degrees in the month of november. Looks like the average drops 10 degrees each month in the fall.

Variable. Bring layers. You won't need a coat, but a sweatshirt or light jacket would be good. Mornings can be cool and damp. Afternoons are likely to be warm enough for shorts, especially since you're coming from a cooler climate.

If you can make it there a wee bit earlier, they close Sixth Street to drivers on the last Saturday before Halloween and it's great fun to walk up and down the street with all the other people in costume. We used to go hang out at a piano bar there, Ivory Cats. Also, there's a regatta in Town Lake that weekend, the Head of the Colorado aka Pumpkin Head, which could be fun to watch for a little bit. We used to race in it regularly when we lived in Houston. For rowing there then, I would bring the fleece tights and the rowing jacket layered over a light fleece top and a uni*, and would likely be racing in the uni only by late morning. I would not have needed to bring heavier fleece pants, probably.

However, plan for variation. Racing in Louisiana the second weekend in November (about the same climate as Austin), two years ago I never took off my light fleece top, whereas last year the uni was all I needed.

*Uni: one piece spandex garment combining tank top and shorts, for rowing in.

Sadly, a wee bit earlier is not in the cards this time.

Variable is a good word, though it will probably be at least cool by then, if not actually chilly. I'll second the layers suggestion.

glad the back is fixed, at least for a while. Perhaps I should have given you a book about seitai (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/4770029977/102-8988295-2404902?v=glance&n=283155) instead of the CD?

I already do yoga sometimes and Pilates sometimes. Seitai probably wouldn't hurt but also isn't strictly necessary.

One thing I haven't seen noted here is that November in the south usually means a tendency toward rainy weather more often than not. I'm no expert on Austin, but I wouldn't imagine it would be very different from New Orleans in that regard. You might want to pack a compact umbrella in case. November is a variable month of highs and lows in most of the deep south, though, where it can be in the 90s or the 30s, or both, or everywhere in between. When it does get cold in the south it's an icky, damp cold because it's humid all the time, I'm sorry to say. But Austin is a fun and interesting place to visit, despite the climate. Layers are your friend, but you shouldn't need a coat or winter boots. I lived my whole life in the south wearing nothing warmer than a t-shirt under a turtleneck and a sweater, and socks with sneakers got me through winter just fine. :)

Freezing!

Okay, not freezing. Mostly icky rain and chilly enough for sweaters, maybe a light jacket. Or, if you're from Austin, ten layers. ;)

So you should be fine, almost-Canadaland girl. :P
