I have plane tickets.
I have hotel reservations.
I have a con membership.

So...I guess that means I'm going. Austin, TX, in early November, for World Fantasy Convention, in case you haven't been following along at home. Which of you should I go looking for when I get there?

Me! Though I still have to move our reservation for the thursday night hotel, damnit! Stupid site, not including the online code. I HATE calling.

Phones stink.

Let's make sure we have each other's cell numbers before we get there.

*sigh* Yes, I know.

Ah, calling friends = totally less stress. Unless you're going to be annoying, of course. When calling = making sure I'll have somewhere to sleep, and it won't turn out that I gave them the wrong dates accidentally because numbers are confusing out loud because that's not the way I'm wired, then I get stressed out.

I will try not to be annoying.

Look for me!

I mean, I won't be there, and you don't know what I look like, but it would be really entertaining, and afterward you could describe the people you thought might have been me.

....okay, I need less coffee and more sobering responsibilities this morning, clearly. Have fun at the con. I'm glad you're getting to go.

Perhaps you are a suboptimally nice person?

This is okay; so am I.

YAY cons! I do so love having travel all the planned and nothing to look forward to but the fun.

I have my plane ticket bought for coronation... Now I just have to plan my outfits and my luggage and what I want to do when I get to my destination.

w00t!

EXCITEMENT!!!

Where is coronation, anyway?

I, too, have to plan clothing and luggage, but not really in as full-tilt a way as an SCA event requires. On the other hand, since I'm advised to think in layers...oof.

I'm told we're going to Vermillion, SD... That sounds like THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE to me, but I'm from the east coast, so...

It sure is, but it's a more pleasant middle of nowhere than most of SoDak. How are you getting there?

I'm trying to figure out at the moment how to scrape together the money for it in the next two months. :)

Well, you see, that's the convoluted bit. :-)

I'll be flying into MDW (Chicago, Midway) since Southwest has a hub there, I can do the flight round-trip for $100. Zig has, for whatever reason, volunteered to drive two hours to pick me up at the airport and then drive me back to Madison, WI, where I will spend the night. Friday morning, we will leave MadTown and drive 8 hours to the event in Vermillion. And then on Sunday, the whole process will repeat itself, going the opposite direction...

Why ANYONE would volunteer to spend 10 hours in a car with me is a mystery, but then again, it'll give me a chance to stress test the boy. How many times can I sing "The Internet is for Porn" song before he goes completely MAD and drives us into a guard-rail just to make the nonsense stop?

Ahhh, I-90. My dog doesn't like that highway. Makes her barf every time.

Anyway, I hope he breaks and goes gibbering mad after his coronation, not before. Because Mad Kings are kind of, you know, de rigeur.

From: [identity profile] mightyjesse.livejournal.com
... But de rigeur for what application? I mean... once I HAVE a Mad King and I'm all fashionable... in what circle am I fashionable, and what is the best use of a Mad King?

I'm somewhat inexperienced here... help me out...

Mad Kings are like mixed-metal watchbands: they go with everything. Can you imagine an event at which a Mad King would be out of place? Of course not. Liven up your local coffee shop! Turn heads at the grocery store! From the boardroom to the ballroom to your favorite relative's funeral, a Mad King is the must-have accessory for the fall season.

In an odd coincidence, Mumbling Deposed Monarchs are in for spring.

Also some of them do windows. It's worth checking.

Ahahahaha. I love you. I totally love you. I was having an otherwise boring day leading the yuppie version of the "active lifestyle."

I just spent as much on dog treats as I did no my weeks supply of groceries... I SUCK. My dog is SPOILED. Jeez.

In other news, I have sent the First Knight of Northshield a proper warning about crazy Bedou who may try to drive the King Mad for the purposes of accessorizing properly for fall... Because... It's all about sharing a good giggle.

My dog is pretty spoiled, too. And that's just at home -- I don't even want to talk about how spoiled at her grandmonkeys' house.

But really I wouldn't worry about trying to drive the King mad. Relax, take deep breaths, take it slow, just let it happen. It's a very natural thing.

I did not know that. Most of these others I had heard. But not you.
