Normal breakfast this morning! Yay! (Breakfast is the easy meal to get back to, and it's not as easy as one might hope. But still.)

And a happy Halloween all around! The dog will not be pleased. Halloween confuses her. She really likes little monkeys, but she's not allowed to play with them on Halloween, just to give them things that smell too interesting to share. This makes no puply sense. Also she is deeply suspicious of things worn on the head -- hats, masks, whatever. She knows who's under them. She just doesn't get why. It's just not a thing a dog would think of.

When I was little, my mom would strip me down to my skivvies and plunk me down on the kitchen table to carve pumpkins with my godfather. The same procedure held for egg-dyeing at Easter. If Dave would move home to Minneapolis, I would keep my clothes on and sit on a chair, but I'd probably still invite him over to carve pumpkins and dye eggs. (Now that Mother and Dad live here, we have added my godfather to the list of People Who Should Move Home. Not that he will. But we're lobbying anyway.)

Good luck to all those of you who are doing NaNoWriMo! I'm pretty allergic to organized group activity, but I wish you well in yours. If it gets you writing something you want to write, all for the best. For those of you who aren't doing NaNoWriMo, I will propose an alternative: International Bonbons and Movie Magazines Month! Had a stressful fall? I don't care where in the world you live! Spend November eating bonbons and reading movie magazines with me! (Actual movie magazines not required. Mine will probably be New Scientist. It's just, y'know, how the expression goes.) We have no cute graphics. We have no discussion groups. We have no progress bars. Why? Because we are too busy eating bonbons and reading movie magazines and looking languidly fabulous to bother with such things!

Other things allowed in International Bonbons and Movie Magazines Month: long leisurely walks on crisp days. Hot beverages to follow. Baking cookies and eating the rejects as they cool. Writing, sure, but not obsessing on word count or chapter count. Buying presents for friends and family, but not obsessing on number of shopping days until Christmas.

Come on, who's with me? And -- to tie in with Halloween -- what kind of bonbons do you want?

I know! It is for the sadmaking. One of these days I'm going to try [livejournal.com profile] misia's recipe for truffles, and then all my cares will be over, I suspect. Just have to find some free time. Kind of like I have to find some free time to put together the mail I have yet to send you. :P Now that Project Of Doom is finally over, I can start to pick up the shattered remains of my schedule and find some time, hopefully.

I have a recipe for homemade truffles, and I will hope to get some made this winter. At the very least I will need to make [livejournal.com profile] matastas some rum balls -- he missed them last year, and now he lives here!

MmmmmMMMMMmmmmmm.

You're such a bad influence on me, now I'm pondering leaving work early to go bake yummies. I don't have all I'd need for truffles, but I do have everything for lemon bars. Naughty!

Lemon bars are not naughty! Lemon bars are all sweetness and light! And eggs and powdered sugar. Sweetness, light, eggs, powdered sugar: very important.
