mrissa: (borrowed plumage)

Why, you may wonder, do I have [livejournal.com profile] matociquala's pirate hat on for this post? Because of the booty. The plunder. The loot that surrounds me, for I have triumphed over the Christmas shopping! I can barely move away from my desk due to the bulk of parcels surrounding me, but I am done shopping! Anything anyone else gets this year will be purely extraneous. I'm not done shipping, because other people aren't done shipping, but I'm done shopping. Wheeeee! It took me a trip to the Shops At Lyndale, Southdale, 50th and France, Bigdale, and the little shopping area near us (that's just today -- other places other days), but I'm finished!

Baking and wrapping still remain. And, y'know, writing. Cleaning. Etc.

I think I'm a little dehydrated. I'm certainly out of energy. But energy can be restored, water can be drunk, and I am done shopping!

And everybody is so nice to me. The people in the Hockey Lodge. The guy at Border's selling me [topic redacted] books for [person reading this]. Everybody in the entire Dayton's (disguised as a Macy's). Everybody and their literal dogs in the pet store. Other people seem to run into crankiness in December, but for me it's smiles and kind words even when they're very tired. It was nice. So nice I will avoid doing more of it this year.

Congratulations. Unless I am inspired, I am done with the shopping, and now it's just wrapping.
The impartial observer can probably tell that this is the first time I've been able to choose my own wrapping paper for any occasion. I am expressing my independence with snowflake gift tags. My hands are numb and I've gone through half a package of origami paper, using all the good colors, but hey, presents!

I love choosing wrapping paper. Mostly I go with plain colors, but at Christmas I get snowflake prints sometimes. This year I seem to want more greens, but we have enough paper that I really can't excuse buying any more.

Because I am crazy, I have the much-coveted lime green paper with purple ribbon-- my sister and I agree that green and purple work very well together. The crazy comes in on the tags. I've finally gotten the hang of six-pointed snowflakes, and I have all this origami paper sitting around from a long-ago Christmas (I am a perfectionist; origami is not for me), and hey, why not make each gift tag a little snowflake, just waiting to be unfolded?
So now I have nine precious special snowflakes of colored paper, I've realized that the foil paper is far easier to cut, I'm cursing the fact that I can't make a nice simple snowflake but have to be *intricate* about it, and I have no idea how I'm going to attach them to the packages in any shape to be unfolded.
My family had better notice the things.

If they don't, you can come tell my mom, and she will sympathize and fuss appreciatively over you.

You could slip a ribbon through one of the holes? and have it tied so people can untie the ribbon and slip the snowflake off to untie it? maybe?

Putting a ribbon through the holes will make my family notice them being stuck open, which is good. I don't think I'll have trouble, not really-- I've already told Baby Sister that she is not to make fun of my sudden package-wrapping, so she's sure to point it out and have someone else mock me. They'll probably notice that the presents are not wrapped as haphazardly as usual (You have seven presents, the scraps of three rolls of wrapping paper, a roll of tape, scissors, and ten minutes... GO!).

Even before I saw anything about this post, I saw that hat and I thought, "Damn, I have to comment, at the very least to tell Mris how awesome that hat is."

So there you have it, I love your hat.

Not my hat. Bear's hat. But thanks. It is a really good hat.
