For those of you who will be going to Minicon: I'm doing a reading at 8:30 p.m. today and would love to see you there. I can get past the decapitated pantheon discovery and possibly even as far as the accidental puffins in the half hour I have. Puffins! How can you go wrong with accidental puffins and a decapitated pantheon?

And this morning I did the most miraculous thing: I had a nap! Because starting the first day of the con feeling like you haven't had enough sleep for a week is maybe not the optimal thing....

I'm also on a panel at 5:30, but if no one shows up for that, I can talk quite cheerfully to [livejournal.com profile] dd_b and [livejournal.com profile] pnh and even to people whose lj names are not TLAs. It's different to have no one show up for one's reading than for a panel with four other people on it. But last year people came, some of them before I even really knew them, and they laughed in all the right spots, and it was very good indeed. For me, I mean; who else's lj is this?

Okay, now you simply must write the children's book that goes with the title: "Ilse* and the Accidental Puffins."

*or Bjorn, or Siri, or Jens, or whatever other Scando name floats your boat.

Also "Decapitated Pantheon Discovery" is possibly my new favorite imaginary band name.

I'd be up for both of these. Will the DPD have real axes to go with their musical axes? Multi-purpose axes that you can play as guitars AND kill people do sound nifty.

Accidental Puffins, Occidental Puffins, Incidental Puffins... mmm. Remind me of Tom Wham's Penguins of Destiny and Penguins of Doom, to which names a friend was addicted. :D

But the accidental puffins are already in The Mark of the Sea Serpent! I don't want people getting the impression that I am obsessed with accidental puffins.

Or do I...?

Oh, but see - it's easy: you get a readership in childhood with "[insert Scando name here] and the Accidental Puffins," you keep them with your YA books, and they get to return to Accidental Puffins when they're old enough to read TMotSS!*

That way, it's less of an obsession and more of a charming eccentricity - a wink and a nod to your faithful readers.

*I'm not normally one for the marketing ideas, good or bad. Not sure where I'm coming from today.

MSS is already YA. So I would just have to come up with an adult version.

Err. I mean a grown-up version.

I will be at your reading! I will not, however be at your 5:30 panel for the simple reason that I have a 5:30 panel as well.
