I'm bigger than this book. I'm stronger than this book. I'm sneakier than this book. And I will finish this damn book.

Right?

Icon so cuuuuuute! It didn't load when I first loaded this page. For some reason it just seems appropriate in this case.

Absolutely. Then you will throw or be thrown a large and well deserved party to celebrate finishing the book. Then, after a reasonable amount of rest and recuperation, you will start the next book. Because that what writer's do best!

Errr...umm...do I still get the party if I've already started the next book?

From: [identity profile] scottjames.livejournal.com
Yes, because otherwise you'd never get any party at all. And you should get a party.

I said that to myself a lot, and it worked, and if I can do it anyone can. :)

By the way, nice to meet you--I found your LJ through several mutual friends.

Hi! Good to meet you, too.

My previous books did not require this of me. Grumble mumble harumph.

Yes! I mean, I didn't entirely have the delusion that I knew how to do this, but it was creeping up on me. And now this.

But it'll be done soon, it will it will.

Well, my last book was the first book I'd written and finished in several years--so I essentially had to learn to write all over again.

I thought I might be intimidated at the thought of starting the next one, but lately I've had too many short story ideas piling into my head...and I want to start establishing a name for myself before I get to heavy into the novel-writing again. But one of these days...(Which I'm allowed to say having already done it before. :) )

Heh. I wanted to start establishing a name for myself before I got too heavy into the novel-writing in the first place, but sometimes the brain, she is not the most tractable organ.

Of course. And you can always use its own weight against it, if you have to. Because you're smarter than it is.

[livejournal.com profile] timprov, when I did the out-loud version of this with him, was willing to agree to "sneakier" and "stronger," but was not so sure about "bigger." But as you point out, this may be an asset rather than a liability.

Challenge it to a match of thumb wrestling--unless it's all thumbs, then you challenge it to a foot race. See? You can't lose!

Wait, what?

You are. You will be. You have been. You just have to remember the book is cheating at the moment, by stacking its own pages on top of itself, but I'm pretty sure if you stack all the pages of M'ris on top of one another, you're bigger. (nods adamantly, and also, slightly derangedly)

Sadly, this makes sense to me. I don't believe I've communicated it, however. Hm.

Yes. You are bigger, stronger, smarter, sneakier, more motivated, better supported, and have more matches than any book ever spawned.

(And how could anybody question that you're bigger? All that there is of the book came out of you, and is only a tiny portion of the whole.)

I think it's the fact that she's taken three falls to Quicksilver. And this book -- at least the original book-which-has-been-split -- is significantly larger.

Date: 2004-08-24 08:29 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mrissa.livejournal.com
Hmmmmmm. Since Quicksilver is only the first of three volumes of 900 pages each, we are damn well hoping that this is not that size.

But yes, it's not a conceptual largeness at issue here, it's his usual "M'ris little/book big" physical-type teasing.

Yeah, but it isn't the trilogy that's been whopming you, just the first book.

As long as the readers don't lie on the mat thinking "Wha...?" Or at least not in a bad way.

I am gooshy and drippy and so on. People just forget I am.

Keep a-goin' Marissa!
You can do it, you can do it,
you can write this book Marissa!
Although it makes you scowly,
and sometimes a bit growly,
we know that you'll work through it,
we're sure that you can do it!
So when the book is done
we'll all look forward to the fun
of reading a bestselling book writ by Marissa!
