Byerly's has failed me. They had no yellow tomatoes. None. Not even bad ones.

Alack. With the weeping and the gnashing of the teeth.

What's worse, it's not even for my recipe. Poor [livejournal.com profile] timprov, betrayed by Byerly's.

As if to mollify me, the dough for the rosemary buns was as well-behaved as I've ever seen it, smooth and elastic about a minute into the kneading. But I will not be mollified.

Wailie wailie.

In most recipes I've seen, plum or cherry tomatoes are listed as a substitute for yellow tomatoes. (Yellow tomatoes are chosen for lesser acidity, no?)

But what do I know? I don't like tomatoes at all, period, end of story.

In this case, the size of the tomatoes was also a factor. But we may only make one kind of salmon instead of two. Depends on how energetic various beings are feeling.

In this particular recipe, they're primarily a garnish. So the yellowness is important, and not having them isn't a terribly big deal.

Unfortunately I got my butt kicked by a bat last night, and am probably not up to cooking anyway.

Next time, also try the Wedge. If they have them, the tomatoes would probably be Organically Correct and therefore more expensive; but I think it's worth thinking about.

That's a bit of a drive, though. And if we're going that far, we probably need to stop at Whole Foods anyway, and I think they have them.

Wailie wailie.

I just wanted to tell you that this had me laughing out loud. [livejournal.com profile] mmerriam and I recently listened to the audiobook version of Terry Pratchett's The Wee Free Men, and "O wailie, wailie, wailie" became a catch phrase in our household when something goes wrong and tiny blue Scottish melodrama is the only solution.
