Well. My godkids are now officially my godkids. They have been sprinkled, and I renounced evil on their behalves. And I was even possibly audible when I did it, and I didn't disgrace myself by sobbing through the entire ceremony. (I cried. But I didn't sob.) I know a lot of people consider godparents sort of vestigial connections, but I'm very close with mine into the present, and my parents' goddaughter is also important to me. It means a lot to me. It's very important.

The gifts the godfathers and I picked out are to hang in their bedrooms. They're coils of bronze with glass marbles in them, and it looks like the marble is climbing or falling, but the coil is always there holding it up no matter what.

I love these kids so much.

It is a great goodness in my life.

The Beepus threw up on me and laughed and laughed: it is so funny to throw up on Auntie [livejournal.com profile] mrissa! Hahahaha! Oh the hilarity!

I was wearing a burp cloth in the appropriate location, so it was, in fact, moderately amusing that she was that amused.

I have a windchime with one of those. It has a pale blue marble with white swirls. I love it.

We probably both need icons with both of them in. I have no idea what the status of [livejournal.com profile] markgritter's icon capacity is.

The expression on your face in that picture says it all to me, really.

All three of you got to stand as godparents? That is awesome.

Having odd godparents is fairly common; I have odd godparents myself, and several of the kids at my folks' church over the last decade or so have done so as well.

Err. I mean an odd number of godparents, naturally.

Oh, sure. My son has two males and one female, my daughter two females and a male. It's just I think it nifty that one family unit all stands for a child. (I have eleven godkids, but my spouse didn't stand for any of them; there was only one married couple for me, for my daughter, but the wife in that situation kind of insisted for her own reasons having to do with her husband, nothing to do with my daughter.)

I'm Jewish, and my "godparents"--my mother's dearest friends--are still two of the most important people in the world to me. It's a wonderful thing to do and be. I have minimal interest in being a parent, but would be tremendously glad and honored to be a godparent someday.

Yah, it's a very different thing. I'm interested in having a kid at some point, but having a godkid is very different. But it's a good different.

I have an agnostidaughter. If something happens to her parents, it's my job to teach her to question and doubt everything.

She's three and smart and gorgeous and funny and manipulative, and I got to visit with her yesterday and play in the pool with her. Most excellent.

Congratulations on your little ones. Hope the relationship brings all the godparents and godkids a lifetime of joy.

I consider doubt to be a vital part of the role of the godparent. If they never question anything, I've fallen down on my job.

Happily but not at all coincidentally, the kids' parents also feel that way, so it's a complementary rather than an adversarial role.

My goddaughter is (alierajean on LJ). She has been part of my life for 21 years now, and is still a marvelous person and a good person to have in my life. She has also had some effect on at least one of my life decisions: I was thinking at one point of just leaving the Twin Cities and living someplace else, maybe for a while, maybe permanently. But I was not going to abandon Aliera, and if I were going to live somewhere close enough for me to come back every couple of months for a visit, I may as well just not go. So I didn't. (This was especially a big deal for me because the woman invited to be her godmother pretty much abandoned alierajean without any real attempt at keeping the relationship going. I was not going to be the second person to do that -- or the first.)

The first time I lived in the same city as one of my godparents was when I was 21, but I saw the younger of my two godfathers all the time when I was little. Definitely a good thing.

Hooray for you!
Although I'm kind of sad that you have renounced evil. You can live vicariously through my evil deeds, if you would like. :)

And this just reminded me about my nephew. He is three. Lord. He is very, very three. Could be worse, of course. He could still be two.

It was on Robin's and Lillian's behalves. On my own behalf, I renounced nothing.

On the other hand, Dave and Joe and Mary did on my behalf over 28 years ago, so I guess I must not have needed it too badly.

Oh. So I guess I don't need to be extra evil? Are you sure? I could fit a little extra evil in on my schedule. Probably on Wednesday evenings...
