The driveway people were supposed to come and do the forms for the concrete part today, and then the concrete would get poured Friday, and then the asphalt once that was all set and stable and fine. Except that they forgot to send the guy who knows how to make steps out of concrete -- people who have seen our driveway are now laughing heartily -- so now the forms will be done Friday and the pouring Tuesday and we continue with no driveway in sight.

Hurrah.

In substantially better news, I have not been dizzy all day. Hurrah!

Also, there seems to be an attack of the brain-eating books around here. Hurrah some more!

I weep, that you have no steps with which to climb the entire slope of your yard.

steps are tricky though, I'm glad they didn't try to fake it.

That was my reaction as well: they were there making sad faces when I got back from running errands, staring at their plumb lines and at each other. I was very glad they decided to just pack it up and go get the other fella rather than ruining the whole thing.

Mike wonders...

"Why do they need concrete and then asphalt?"

The steps are concrete, and they will be adding an apron that is concrete as well.

We didn't want to get the whole driveway done in concrete. But their proposal included the apron and it made sense to add it.

To add to [livejournal.com profile] markgritter's explanation: we wanted to replace the unduly slippery wood steps with sealed concrete, and we also want to put a handrail in there eventually to make the side of the driveway easier to climb. And the apron under top of the driveway by the garage will help it not to sink quite so distressingly as it did and let us out of the garage with a kerbumpf. (No hobbledy-jaw, though.)
