In high school I still had a great deal more perspective than a lot of the people around me. Not only did I never feel that my parents had *sniffle* ruined my life! *SLAM*, I would have felt foolish saying so at that age. And any time I want to wail something with "always" or "never" in it, a little voice in my head says, "Fool, you are not yet 30." And then I subside sheepishly.
I don't expect this to improve next year when I am 30, because the little voice will almost certainly shift to "not yet 40."

Wow. My internal voices do not have awesome diction like that.
That's in the long-term. In the long-term it's far easier to cope with stuff if you have senses of proportion and perspective. In the short-term, no guarantees.
It doesn't always help to know that, six months later--or maybe only six days or six hours, and sometimes not for six years--you'll be glad you behaved rationally today.
My supposed minions today are feline and so not helpful, unless I want them to smite moths... The cats seem to be breeding the moths for this purpose anyway. (Images of winged-bug subscriptions for cats, eek...)
I remember one afternoon when I was a teenager, when I was really quite angry and upset about something (though I've forgotten what). It occurred to me that we had a sledgehammer and some half-broken concrete blocks and a nice spot out behind the shed where I could take the concrete blocks and smash them into very small bits. And that this was sort of the traditional type of thing to do about that sort of feeling.
It also occurred to me that once I'd smashed the concrete blocks into very small bits, I was still going to be exactly as angry and upset about the thing as I was before, and the only difference would be that I'd have a small pile of concrete bits and even more feeling of inability to do anything about the situation.
This made me recall a memory of utter frustration from pre-school years:
"... and why are those stupid pantyhose not even ALIVE, so that I could PUNISH them for not cooperating with my efforts to put them on!"
While being an adult means fights with pantyhose can be avoided by simply not wearing those nasty garments, impotent frustration is unfortunately just as frustrating as it used to be and sense of perspective and a commitment to behaving rationally do nothing to make this frustration easier to deal with.
It is true that the pantyhose of the world care remarkably little for how you treat them. Which is sometimes a great shame and other times extremely lucky.
Having been out dancing and drinking and listening to loud, fun music, I suddenly find myself with little desire to act rationally. Thus, there has been some sulking, some stamping, and much muttering on your behalf.
