mrissa: (writing everywhere)
[personal profile] mrissa
Eric at Baen's Universe just bought two more of my stories in one e-mail, "Making Alex Frey" and "Loki's Net." Both SF. With specific comments about future types of things they would like to see from me.

I woke up this morning still tired, but I'll tell you, that'll wake you right up.

Edited to add: That makes short story sales #59 and #60. Sixty. It's, um, it's like I could maybe do this fiction thing. How did we get here from over there? Gosh.

Also, I have sold more short stories this year than I've written this year. The goal is to sell as many short stories as one writes, I think, or at least one possible goal is. You know what this means: more short stories needed.

Congratulations! Now, what about those chocolate sea salt cookies? Did they turn out?

Date: 2007-10-10 04:54 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mrissa.livejournal.com
I think they did. They are quirky, and it's fairly easy to oversalt one and undersalt its neighbor. And I definitely wouldn't plan on serving them to small- or medium-sized children: some kids are going to be used to that kind of unusual flavor combination, but others not so much. But adults who can be forewarned and suit their own tastes, sure.

Did you already post the recipe somewhere or could you point me to it? I love semi-unusual cookies (I have a triple ginger shortbread recipe that is similarly quirky).

This (http://www.culinarymuse.com/2005/01/recipe_chocolat.html) is the recipe I started with. I may alter it somewhat in future iterations. We'll see.

Okay, the opposite of a rude awakening is obviously not a polite one... ::ponders the right word, for just in case she ever needs it::

And lo, for you are brilliantly shiny.

From: [identity profile] mrissa.livejournal.com
It's sort of like when they sing the birthday song and bring your cake to you in bed in Sweden, really. Only it could happen any day of the year.

And speaking of brilliant shinies, unlike my previous sales to Baen's, these two did not come from [livejournal.com profile] elisem jewelry. I did this bit as much "all by myself" as any artwork is ever all by oneself.

This is good (so long as no excuse is needed to buy shinies if one wants the shinies) :)

Date: 2007-10-11 12:35 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mrissa.livejournal.com
I had the impulse to use a $20 shirt as an excuse to buy a $N shiny, where $N is a large number. (Specifically, I wanted to take the shirt to [livejournal.com profile] elisem and say, "Greeeeeen green green green go!" But did not.)

I'm a bit startled myself.

(Other people please note: [livejournal.com profile] papersky is not saying that collections are even remotely easy to sell for people who have not yet sold novels.)

Yay! One thing I've been noticing, in lists of people at cons or in magazines or whatever, is that your name seems to be pretty well recognized. (With 60 stories, no wonder.) That is, it's included in lists with the clear assumption that people will recognize it and respond favorably, as in "Read this - it includes [list of ten names I recognize and 5 I probably should] so you know it will be good."

And I second the "you don't have to figure out which book to write next" sentiment, as above.
