mrissa: (winter)

What I wanted this year -- what I have wanted every year since I became verbal -- was snow on Thanksgiving. And I got it. Only a dusting, not enough to cover the grass, but still, it's an early Thanksgiving this year; any snow is bonus snow. My grandfather's health has improved drastically in the last ten days, with every indication that this is to be a lasting improvement; we have plenty of pie; and the porch roof is covered with snow. If that's not good, I don't know what is.

The world continues to be so full of a number of things. Thank you for being one of those things, and for exposing me to more of them.

That sounds very pleasant. We had a light snowfall here on Monday, no accumulation but I enjoyed looking at colored leaves through falling snow. (Yes, we have fine fall colors right now.)

Our neighbor's sumac has three leaves left on it, just three. I find this charming. Also the oaks are holding on a certain amount, like they do. We always end up with snowy crunchy oak leaves.

I am pleasantly surprised by New York's late version of indian summer. It's 58F here, and feels much farther from winter than I'm accustomed to seeing anytime in November.

I'm not even sure I'd call this Indian Summmer: it hasn't really gotten cold in between. (And no, this isn't usual here either.)

Snow here too! Thank you for being you, as well. My life would not be half so delightful without tales of puppies and cats and monkeys, for which I thank you and Bear. And for the other bits too, though they're harder to describe in one sentence like that.

Snow, pie, and a healthy grandfather. Who could ask for more?

Glad to hear your grandfather is doing well -- and that it appears to be lasting.

"Happy as kings"? Interesting phrase. Any idea of its origin?

It's Robert Louis Stevenson: "The world is so full of a number of things, I'm sure we should all be as happy as kings."

I have been coerced into hosting by my father. My mother is apparently spending the day trolling Craig's List and sending me inappropriate jobs and weird 'FDA drug recall' emails. And my job asked me not to come in Friday, which means I won't get paid for Thursday or Friday. (Even though they are open Friday.) Needless to say I am ANNOYED this holiday. Which means I'm also feeling guilty for not appreciating my health or position of privelege in the world.

But I really appreciate your post this morning. And I'm choosing to focus on it instead of the kind of annoyance that makes me want to dump tabasco sauce all over raw chicken and serve it for dinner today next to unpeeled and uncooked potatoes and still frozen green beans.

Go you! And thank YOU for your wonderful reading lists and the way you clearly care for all the people in your life.

I'm so glad your grandfather is better.

As for the snow, I don't know what the sky is doing where you are, but right here, it's snowing some more. I think I've been spared mowing up the Norway maple leaves this year. I was lulled by the warm weather into waiting til the tree had actually let go of them all. Ha.

I am glad of you too.

P.

Yes, we still have snow here, big fat drifty flakes. Am pleased. I doubt that it'll still be on the ground tomorrow, but if it is, [livejournal.com profile] markgritter will be spared raking the last of the oak leaves.

Happy Thanksgiving! The boys have been out playing in the snow already (little as it is) and had a ball.

I'm glad to hear that your grandfather's doing better. Enjoy your pie and have a great day! :-D

I'm happy, too, because there's not so much that I need to shovel it. :)

Thank you for being you.

This is a lovely day full of much food, including food experiences I hadn't yet had. Friends are here cooking.

Happy that your grandfather continues to improve and that the universe brought you snow today.

I wish I had a healthy grandfather. But it's not a sad wish; I had four grandparents until college and I still have their memory; I had foud grandparents-in-law until this year and I have two still around and loving memories of the other two. I am grateful for the blessing of grandparents and for posts like yours that remind me of them. (I'm grateful for quite a number of your other posts too, and very glad you have things and people that make you happy.)
