Some of you know [livejournal.com profile] porphyrin and her family personally. For those who don't, these are some of our dearest friends, specifically our godson Robin. I just got off the phone with [livejournal.com profile] porphyrin, who said that I should make a short post to notify their friends who had not already heard this news, so if you know someone who knows [livejournal.com profile] porphyrin and not me, please point them here:

Robin had an accident today that severely hurt his left eye. He was taken in for surgery, and the surgeons were able to save the globe of the eye. He will be in the hospital for at least a few more days. We don't have any information yet about what level of vision there will be in that eye. His daddy is staying overnight with him. He was groggy coming out of anaesthetic and wanted to go home, but we do know that he's out of the anaesthetic now, so there are no worries there. (Maybe I'm the only one who fusses when they have to use anaesthetic on someone that little. I don't know.)

He and his parents and sister had the support of [livejournal.com profile] matastas and [livejournal.com profile] dlandon today and tonight, and we are all so glad they could be there and do so much good when it so needed doing. We will be heading up to see all of them tomorrow, so if you'd like me to pass on messages, I can do that, from comments here or from e-mail to my gmail account, marissalingen.

We are so glad and grateful that he had good and prompt care and that they could save the eye, and we'll be hoping from the best from here on out. I don't have a lot of other information about the details here. I will post more if I know more and [livejournal.com profile] porphyrin wants me to, or she will eventually get to the point where she knows more and has a spare moment to post herself; I don't expect that to be very soon, though.

(It has been a rather fraught evening here waiting by the phone, and I will not feel right until I have been able to hug our best little guy again. But tomorrow. Definitely tomorrow.)

ETA: [livejournal.com profile] porphyrin did have a chance to post after I left the computer for the evening last night.

Oh, I wanted to believe Jason had gotten it wrong when he told me something had happened to Robin and that I should come here and read this post. I was just with [livejournal.com profile] porphyrin today and everything was fine, so it seems a bit unreal to hear Robin's in the hospital just hours later. :(

Please tell her that I have added each of them to my church's prayer chain. Jason and I are praying as well for Robin's best possible outcome from the surgery, and hoping that life treats all of her family members very gently right now.

Poor Robin! (And his poor parents!) Please do keep us updated, and pass on my wishes that everything turn out well. I'm not normally a praying man, but I'm praying for them.

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear that - and glad that he got prompt medical attention. I hope he makes a full recovery.

Poor wee boy! I'm glad to hear he got good care right away.

I hope all proceeds as well as it possibly can, and everyone involved has reasons to be happy and relieved very soon.

I don't know them, and please don't worry them with my distant concern, but *hugs* for you. I really hope he recovers so entirely that when he grows up it's only a story about how worried you all were that he's faintly embarrassed to hear repeated. He sounds so terrific when you talk about him.

Here's a funny story for you:

Robin, upon seeing the THIRD hospital-- first Minn Kids ED, then sitting and waiting at Phillips, and finally over at North, sees the sign that says 'Emergency Room'.

He proceeds to throw a full blown, spectacular tantrum.

Why?

"I don't WANT to go to this Emergency Room, it's for ADULTS! I'm not GOING to go to the ADULT Emergency Room, I'm not an ADULT!"

Heh. That's so Robin. Some steps up from, "No no not real goctor!", but you can see the evolution there.

I don't have [livejournal.com profile] porphyrin's telephone number, and I don't think she has mine. If I can dredge up your email address, I'll send the numbers to you to pass on. I left a comment at her LJ saying that I can watch Lillian pretty much any time starting a week from tomorrow (which might help with future medical appointments). I'll say more to you in email, or you can email me if you want to cak hyphen edit at comcast dot net.

I don't know them, but this is terrible and I'm sorry to hear it. I don't know of anaesthesia is riskier for small kids per se, but it's very harrowing for the parents. The kids usually wake up disoriented and crying, and of course they look dead before they wake up, so it's a horrible ordeal all around. You and the family and the poor little guy have my sympathies.

Oh, dear. I hope he recovers all or most of his vision.

You are not the only person who frets about anesthesia on someone that little; I don't entirely manage not to fret about it even on full-grown people.
