mrissa: (I'm listening....)

The names have gone on the programming now, and here's what I'm on:

Friday, 3:30. From Cool Idea to Story.
How do you get there from here?
Jim Frenkel (mod), Alec Austin, Ellen Klages, Marissa Lingen, Will Shetterly

Friday, 5:00. Grinding Buttons and Pushing Axes for Fun and Profit
I hate stories with a “message”, particularly if I agree with the message, but maybe I’m wrong. Can it be done well and elegantly? How? What is the value in making your reader uncomfortable?
Elizabeth Bear (mod), Alec Austin, Emma Bull, Marissa Lingen, Sarah Monette

Saturday, 1:30. Advice from New Writers
This is not a typo.
Teresa Nielsen Hayden (mod), Reesa Brown (2nd mod), Jennifer Evans, Marissa Lingen, Michael Merriam, Kit O’Connell, Jon Singer

Sunday, 12:30. Writer’s Lies
What lies do you have to tell yourself in order to do your best work? Do you tell yourself the truth? I believe you. No, really.
Steven Brust (mod), Pamela Dean, Ellen Klages, Marissa Lingen, Will Shetterly, Caroline Stevermer

Nicely spread out so that I can do PT and crash for a bit if I need to. Also I do not have to moderate anything. Wheee!

I am terrible at panel reports. I am much better at "thoughts I had that may or may not have had anything to do with the panel but came up about that time." We will see what I can do.

Such great panels. Wish I could be there. Please do tell us about them, esp. the first one on your list. Random thoughts vaguely related to the topics would also be welcome.

Wow, sounds like a good batch. If that's representative, I should be hard pressed to find time for meals.

We have people who are practiced at dragging me by the hair (metaphorically) away from interesting panels and conversations and towards food. We can use some of them on you if you like.

I think everyone else leaving to go eat will be a clue. Also, I should be more pro-active in making meal dates with people.

After people almost keeled over during the first Fourth Street, meal breaks were instituted. The time may be a little short, though.

I really, really wanted to be there. Looking that this panel list, now I'm even sadder. Happy the boychild is here, although he is exhausted and passed out on my bed, sad to be missing the con.

This could be a mixed blessing.

I hope you do enjoy the time with the boychild. We would have loved to have you here, but a small avian has indicated to me that there may be another chance next year....

Oh, good. I looked on the website for a place to send a supporting membership or something, but they'd already taken the registration address down. This looks really, really cool, and I am struggling not to impulse-drive up there.

"You are bored."
"Yes. But I have work to do."
"Be realistic. Are you going to do it?"
"No, but..."
"GO."
"I have made no preparations!"
"You're planning to 'drop' that class anyway, that frees up tuition money...."
"Woe, woe, for I am conflicted!"

Still plenty of con left....
