Oh hair conditioner manufacturers:

Why why WHY did you have to change the formulation of your conditioner so that it smells exactly like the "Barbie and the Rockers: Diva" doll I had when I was 8? What could possibly have motivated this behavior? And how did you pick that particular doll over Malibu Barbie or Skatin' Fun Skipper? Or Cabbage Patch dolls or Strawberry Shortcakes? Was there a contest? Because I'm pretty alarmed at a contest for which this is the result.

Wow, what an incredibly foreign perspective to mine! Neat.

If I think about it, I can still totally recall the scent of Strawberry Shortcake. Weird.

Of course you can. It was a very distinctive smell.

That's so weird. I find I can't remember what Skatin' Fun Skipper smelled like, of herself, only what her skates smelled like. Did the doll smell like a regular Skipper?

Yes, plus the smell interface with the skates, if I recall correctly. (I never owned one.)

Maybelline eye makeup remover smells exactly like my friend Maria's Barbie dolls. Since she had an older sister, there were some older dolls in the mix. Since their playroom was in the basement, this was part of the Eau de Barbie as well. Sort of sweetish, musty-plasticky. Not unpleasant as it turns out, but distinctive.

Since I didn't do Barbie (more room for Breyer horses if there are no Barbies, and besides - Barbie's stiff legs made her a poor rider, so what's the point of Barbie to the horse-crazy?), this is what my brain tells me all Barbies smell like. Maybe they do.

My computer screen nearly received a coffee bath! :)

Isn't it funny how certain smells trigger such memories??

Nah, this was the result of meticulous research.

Into what question? "Which Barbie do women in their 30s most want to smell like?" "How can we make women feel like plasticine bimbos without any visual cues?" "What scent would freak [livejournal.com profile] mrissa out?"

I used to love Aveda Clove Shampoo, but then they monkeyed with it and now I can't stand the stuff.
