So many SF writers like to recast historical naval stories as SF. So we were thinking...what about the reverse? The H.M.S. Gift Shop Gallacticka! Who can tell which crewmate may be a crypto-Papist Spanish spy? After Bournemouth burns, the conflicted Doctor Baltar, consumed with memories of his Spanish lover*, devises an ingenious mechanism for inspecting the animacules of the blood, to tell the Papist from Queen Elizabeth's loyal subjects--but will he use this device truly? And the boyish young Lt. Starbuck: does his proper Protestant modesty hide a deeper secret to his identity under his bandaged chest? Return for the next performance of...H.M.S. Gallacticka!

People should totally pay me to make stuff up.

Wait. They do.

So that's all right, then.

*Must be Basque. They're the ones with x's in their names, right?

Who's the Jew? I'm pretty sure there's a Jew in there.

First instinct says Gaeta. Homosexuality not being construed even remotely similarly in that setting, that's the way I'd map that one. Also, being the computer geek in a starship fleet with quasi-religious objections to networking has some very personal difficulties that could come out the right way for a nice Jewish boy on the H.M.S. Gallacticka.

Yup, Gaeta. Perfect.

I'd buy this story. :)

You are a very bad woman in all the best ways. I think our dear Mike's ghost has collapsed in a fit of giggles at this.

Boyish young Lt. Starbuck reminded me instantly and tremendously of Timothy Peter Hugo Stanley, who, mirabile dictu, is now visible online (http://www.airshipentertainment.com/growfcomic.php?date=20081228) (panel five).

Oh, and you're going to have a sea story with an officer named Starbuck? That's just ridiculous; no author would ever do something that silly.

This may be the first time I've ever seen the words "Starbuck" and "modesty" used together.

Awesome. Nicely done.

There had to have been an H.M.S. Enterprise already, right?
