I was talking to a friend who teaches, and a wacky student misapprehension seems to have gotten us to an alternate 18th century Europe that is unified under a parliament of queens.

Will one of you write this for me? Pleeeeeeease? I don't care if you file the serial numbers off a little and have the countries named things like Danemark and Ostrich. It's got a title built right in! A Parliament of Queens! It's awesome! And I really don't want to have to do it myself, is the thing. I'm kind of busy. And if I have to get there from elephants somehow, it's going to be...quite a thing, is what. So do a girl a favor. Maybe a trilogy worth of favor.

If I weren't under a surfeit of queens already, I might. As it stands, I too want to read those books, if someone else will write them.

*eyes Marissa*

I don't need any more ideas. Especially when the brain is whining, loudly, about revising and why why why can't we write a new shiny book.

And this one is so very shiny and so tempting....

You know you want to. You would if you loved me. All the cool kids are doing it--wait, no, if the other cool kids were doing it, I wouldn't need you to. So you could be the bleeding edge! The trendsetter among trendsetters! The fulfillment of the sad, sad kitty eyes in [livejournal.com profile] swan_tower's icon!

There is no room for queens in my current project. No there's not. And I like my current project. And I don't need another. No, I don't. No, not even a little bit. Okay, maybe a little bit...

Augh.

You are an evil, evil Mris.

Who wins. An evil, evil Mris who wins. That's an important part.

I can't write it, but I promise to buy it in hardcover.

You do know that a parliament of queens is the correct term for a group of more than six transvestites together, don't you?

Well, it sounded good, and I already want to write this story, but I'm so poor at historical stuff.

"Darling, why is the Russian queen, so, ah--"

"Beard. Yes. It's the fashion these days in Moscow."

"But surely--"

"It is very cold in Russia. The dowager had to have her cheeks amputated due to frostbite. All very tragic."

Gustaf III of Sweden. He'd have done it just for the drama.

Oh wow, if I could *acutally* write, that would be an *awesome* project!

(I know, I'm trying my hand at a writing project, but one, er, two projects that I can barely handle is quite enough)

As it happens, I am already working on a story with the word "Parliament" in the title. But it's future, not past.

But, dear, you've just created an anthology. I count at least three people who have volunteered to write the thing. So, you have them all write it, then you publish it under that nifty title. Voila!. Better than Five Fates, even.

I am allergic to editing and even more allergic to pitching anthologies to publishers.

I am not at all allergic to sitting back and enjoying the results when I throw out an idea, though. That part is good.

I want to read this as a short-story anthology with one story for each queen.

I can totally see how that could have happened.

Also, if I ever get back to writing again, that could be the sequel to The Daysleepers.

It's like if King Christina and Emilie du Chatelet read Christine de Pizan and went, "Oh. Why stop with a city?" and got out the axes! In series, not in parallel, since their dates didn't overlap.

Sequel title: A Continent of Ladies.

That sounds more like the first book in a trilogy... which continues in A Council of Princesses and finds its triumphant conclusion in A Parliament of Queens.

Considering my reading habits these past few months, I'm not sure if I'm prepared to read anymore about Maria-Theresa or anyone with the title 'Infanta.' I'm definitely not qualified to write this book, but I would be interested in reading it.

Although, I can see someone making this misapprehension. There are a lot of novels and biographies about 18C women attached to to royalty.

1. I'd read it.

2. Just on the title, nothing more, I'm reminded of P.J. O'Rourke.

Would love to read this, but I can't write historical. My current WIP, which is extremely warped historical, is already failing under the demands of research (and motivation, sigh). Still, an awesome title!
