One Year Closer to Balance
Feb. 13th, 2009 06:14 amWell, here we are. One Year Closer to Balance. I woke up from dreams of an out-of-control space station again, for the umpteenth time in the last year and a half. Just in case I was likely to forget what today is, I guess.
My balance-related plans today include:
--very light yoga, since I fell out of a couple of poses yesterday
--going over the credit card statement
--lunch out with friends/quiet dinner at home: balance time with friends and time with family, time with others and time by myself
--work on revisions and work on new fiction
--charitable donation and muffins for neighbors so I'm not spending it all thinking of myself
Are you observing my balance holiday with me? Let me know what you're thinking and doing towards balance in your own lives.

Date: 2009-02-14 01:59 am (UTC)Then lunch one, mini weenies, fried, then orange juice followed immediately by lunch two, peanut butter and jelly sandwich, then I made two more sandwiches for dinner, one for me, one for a friend, and had a fudge drop. Most of this happened while reading a book.
Having successfully balanced 'eating all the food in the house' with 'having some snacks to go skiing' I drove to work, watered my plants, went to seminar... and that, right there, is the mistake.
If we hadn't gone to seminar before skiing, if we'd skipped that bit of obligation, we would have been on the road before it started snowing.
Milady Buick, while valiant, did not handle it well. She slid, she spun her wheels, we didn't make it out of town before deciding to go to Adina's to have her drive. On the way to Adina's... more sudden ABS action, which is good, and then a big hill, which was bad. We saw people sliding, one guy slid and then did a cop 180, I waited until various cars were out of my way before putting Milady Buick into first and having my two friends hop out.
I am buying new tires with my tax refund. I am tired of not being able to drive in snow.
However. Once at Adina's, we switched places, so I could have a spot in the driveway and not be plowed in... and Milady Buick decided not to park so much as slide back down the driveway.
While she is valiant, this was not her quest.
Turns out it wasn't anyone's, evidenced by the fact that three and a half hours after leaving seminar for skiing, I am typing. We called it at mile seven of 380, moving fifteen miles an hour, then took an hour to get back to town. My car is still at Adina's; we will brave and conquer the hill once a plow's been by.
This is okay. Yes, I would have loved to be skiing, especially in the new snow, especially at night. I like skiing, and I don't get to do it very often. But we can arrange a group rate for our department next week maybe, before it thaws properly, and do it right this time.
I have a sandwich already made for dinner, and for lunch tomorrow. I have a bag full of ski food, mostly nostalgic fruit snacks. I have a book to read and a letter to write. And almost half a pound of fudge if I want to eat it.
