mrissa: (grandpa)
[personal profile] mrissa
I am home. Grandpa is not home. Grandpa is still in the ICU. But he is very, very much improved. (If he wasn't, I wouldn't be home.)

It turns out that I haven't been over-conservative in travel with vertigo: I am feeling really, really bad tonight. In the exhaustion and vertigo sense. In the emotional sense I am immensely relieved because Grandpa is doing so very very much better as of this morning.

Hooray! Making appropriate substitutions (I have no horn, but I do have a didgeridoo ... or an organ), I could make said noises.
Except everything is at church.

We already have at least one church making joyful noise for him. More would not go amiss.

Sorry the travel has wiped you out, but glad your grandfather is better!

I'm so glad you posted. I fretted all day that you hadn't.

I am overjoyed your grandfather is better. So so, glad.

And I'm sorry you feel so bad. I hope that a day or two of decent sleep will take care of all of that.

I'm glad you are home safe, but sorry to hear that you are not feeling well.

Glad to hear your grandpa is doing better today as well. Do they have any estimates on when he will get to go home?

Date: 2009-02-23 12:00 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mrissa.livejournal.com
Yes, it's a known process from here. Anything from here that would interrupt the known process would be new bad stuff rather than the same bad stuff as before, if that makes any sense. So he has to see the PT people to make sure his time in the ICU hasn't unsteadied him dangerously, for example, and all the other checklist items they have for getting somebody safely moved through the steps and discharged. Some of this will depend on when hospital personnel etc. is available for each step, so there's some variability in the estimate.

I'm so relieved to hear about your grandfather doing better, and glad that means you can be at home. I may be entirely projecting, but whenever I'm traveling, let alone when I'm feeling yucky and traveling, home feels very much like a burrow I want to dive into. So I hope that it is warm and close and right for you, too.

I'm sorry you're feeling so rotten, physically. Travel is an ordeal, and not one I can imagine going well with vertigo. I had sort of assumed you were being pretty sensible and evidence-based in your degree of conservatism, so I'm not shocked that you weren't over-conservative. I hope things get at least somewhat better soon.

Yes. This is my house where I live. It has my mug in it and my couch and etc. Grandma's house is familiar and comfortable--next best thing--but it is not my house.

Under healthy circumstances I don't really find travel to be much of an ordeal, so it's sort of a blow now that it is for awhile.

Glad your grandfather is better, hope he gets to healthy and stays there for years and years more.

And that you do, too.

This is good news, and thank you for passing it along. (Well, modified rapture, but good about your grandfather, and that you haven't in fact been over-conservative and missing out on good things thereby. Needing to be cautious is not good, but evaluating how cautious is.)

So glad that your grandfather is improving. You put yourself through a lot to be there for him...and at times like this, being there *is* love.

Hugs your way.

I'm so glad to hear he's doing better, and I hope home gets its this-is-my-place mojo going. (It's lousy that your health is doing the things it's doing, but yay validation of your ability to figure out what you can and can't do right now? That's a difficult and useful skill.)

Oh, I'm so glad to hear that your Grandpa is on the mend. I'm sorry, but not surprised, that traveling does you in...my sister has mobility & balance trouble (due to some paralysis), and so she dislikes travel because it's pretty much all standing, carrying stuff, or trying to gracefully get in and out of seats.

Hopefully a couple of days' rest will set you right(ish), and your Grandpa will be back in his own home soon too.
