I was not sure whether to begin this post:

Woe, woe, gloom, despair! We will all catch tuberculosis in the workhouse and be buried in pauper's graves, woe!

or perhaps:

We have now completed the Scandosotan Stereotype Checklist and are perfect caricatures of ourselves.

but I think I will just go with the classic:

I bought a car. It is blue.

We are not only the proud owners of a used Volvo, but the first CD in its CD player was the Indigo Girls. Yah. Yah. That is just how much of a demographic we are.

It's worse than that, I have noticed. When I went to buy my used Volvo, I was wearing clogs and carrying a book called Profile of Sweden in my purse.

I know. I can't help it.

Blue is a good color for a car. Not that I've ever owned a blue car. But it is. (Red, yellow, red, green, dark gray.)

So...Complete Scandosotan Stereotype Checklist...check!

Blue car! Whee!

I guess that is not decorous enough an expression. However, it is the best I can manage after chocolate.

It is, I must point out, a blue car with a beige interior. And beige, as we all know...

...is sort of yellow.

Harumph. I *knew* there was a reason I should have held out for red. Or orange.

Does this mean you are able to drive cars again? *hopeful*

A blue car and the Indigo Girls sounds about perfect to me. :)

I have sadly never worn my clogs when going to buy a Volvo. The truth is, I just don't wear my clogs so much any more. I did think of you recently when passing through the lovely burgh of Chinook, WA in our white Volvo. There is a Lingenfelter Rd. that crosses Hwy 101 there. So if you ever wanna get felted, I can tell you where to go.

Congrats on the Volvo. I presume you already had the Indigo Girls CD, so no congratulations are necessary.

Goodness. Well, sometimes this sort of information is useful; I'll be sure to pass it on to the family.

We already had not only the Indigo Girls CD but another Indigo Girls CD that could stay in the old car for its trip home. So yah.

And thanks.

Blue is a very nice colour, and really, living where you live, you need a car.

That was our theory. And while our old car has been an extremely good little car, we don't trust it to make it through this winter if we're using it for our main form of transportation this winter. We figured it was better to go car shopping now than to absolutely have to go car shopping in January.

A plurality of my cars have been blue, with green a strong second. What do the Indigo Girls have to do with being Minnesotan? I missed the memo there.

No, that one's a different demographic/stereotype.

We do fit more than one, I'm afraid.

Blue's a good color. It'll stand out in the snow, which is a win, in ya'll's case, and it doesn't make the pulses of police officers pound faster the way red does.

Besides, as my father once said, you're perfectly entitled to eat cornbread and blackeyed peas for supper if you like them, even if other people laugh at you. You can even eat sweet potato pie for dessert, and it's no one's business if you do.

Especially if you don't hog the cornbread but share it with others. Mmmm, cornbread.

I sense a little Dutchness in that mix, too. :)

Yay, blue car!

I've been researching possibilities for replacing our RAV4. And even though I've just been checking out other cars on the road and in parking lots to find one that meets our needs, a review of the last one I checked out talked about how it screams Mommy on Board. So yeah, I'm fitting my demographic, too. Wait until I show up to test drive one with two car seats in tow, just to be sure they both fit. (Purely future plans there, nothing immminent on that front.)

Oh, Volvos are *good* cars. Parts are expensive, but the things run seemingly forever.

Does it have a name yet? They have a special place in my heart, Volvos do: I grew up with Volvos (all named, of course); I learned to drive in a Volvo (Achilles); Carly drove a Volvo for years and years (sadly unnamed, poor thing).

In addition to the Narnia reference, her license plate says CRY. Cry Cry Cry is Dar Williams, Richard Shindell, and Lucy Kaplansky. So Lucy = 1/3 (Cry Cry Cry) = Cry.
