Chatter.

I'm feeling chattery.

What I am not feeling is focused and chattery.

Unless you've read the first ten chapters of Thermionic Night, which you haven't, and no you're not allowed yet. Then I could chatter on about whether Eija needs to be mentioned already and Tyyne introduced or not. But I can't.

So what do you want to talk about aside from that?

I got up at 4:55. I have passed through the back-to-bed stage (WOOO!) and the bleary-eyed mumbly stage. I am now in the unnaturally-bright-eyed stage. This is the mood in which I start channeling Jordan from "Real Genius." Consider that a promise or a warning, as you like.

I planted my bulbs yesterday. I shared the order with my mother, and conscientiously gave her the little bags with the planting instructions. I snarfed the plastic plant identification tags, which also give brief instructions. But I did not get them all, and they sent me the wrong bulbs anyway, substituting species tulips for grape hyacinths. I think the species tulips will be dandy. I have some already, so there will be an echo of that very fine waterlily shape in a different set of colors. But I had a hard time being sure which bulbs were the daffodils and which were the weird puffy pink tulips. I gave Lydy the daffodils to put on the grave of the much-tried fish Julian, or at least I hope that I did. Now I'm thinking that the bulbs that looked like plain tulip were probably weird puffy pink tulip and the ones I thought were weird puffy pink tulip were actually a second set of peculiar daffodils, because I didn't order plain tulips. That I recall. I could have called my mother and asked for information, but I didn't. I had a hunt round for the packing list, but I think I must have passed that on to her as well, inadvertently. But I like surprises in the garden.

Ari chased a squirrel up a tree and tried to catch about a hundred ladybugs.

What a very nice cat.

I'm glad you like surprises in the garden. My surprises were mostly garlic mustard (noxious weed!) and the Hungarian peppers coming out all wrong. But I'm not a Garden Person, so I don't earn as many surprises.

I am very tender of weeds, I'm afraid, but I try not to cosset the garlic mustard. I'm a sucker for all the brassicas, though.

My single greatest garden surprise of that sort was probably motherwort. I thought it might be delphinium and let it grow. It's quite pretty and all, native, possessed of genuine medical properties. But it gives both Lydy and me a rash, and its seedpods are very very stickery and painful, and it is a mint, which means that it spreads like mad.
