phrasing difficulties

I just saw a commercial in which BP was talking about the Gulf Coast and had their spokesperson say, "BP will be here until the oil is gone."

"We'll suck your region dry of its natural resources and then pull up stakes and leave!"

Wait. That may not be quite what they meant.

The thing I find interesting about those commercials is that they all have the same script -- "I was born and raised here in New Orleans, and this is my home. I'm (so-and-so), and I'm in charge of BP's cleanup, and I'm not leaving until this problem is solved." -- and I have now seen three different people in that commercial. First, there was the black dude, then there was the white dude, then there was the white woman.

So far, the majority of them have been lying. Why should we believe the rest?
