It turns out that the line between "well enough to get propped up on the couch and watch Daria and A Bit of Fry and Laurie" and "not well enough to get propped up on the couch and watch Daria and A Bit of Fry and Laurie" is an important one.

A couple weekends ago, one of the War Shit channels played an entire miniseries about the Doolittle raid on Tokyo, over and over and over again. I know this because I spent that weekend completely laid out in fever dreams to the point where I was unable to reach the TV remote for a lot of it, and yet managed to drift in and out of consciousness enough times to see the same scenes three or four times. And also the part where famous World War II pilot Leonardo DiCaprio courageously dropped an entire B-25 full of cocktail weenies on Tokyo at least twice.

I have to admit, I've studied quite a bit of WWII history, and I don't remember hearing that bit about Leonardo DiCaprio and the cocktail weenies BEFORE, but I've seen it twice now on a documentary, so it must be true.

Oh, that sounds no fun at all. I hope the unwellness is only very temporary.

Hey - I saw your name come up the other day on a political blog I read, when someone recommended one of yours as one of her favourite short stories of the year. :)

What a lovely thing to share. Thank you. (Any chance you remember which blog or which story?)

Right here (http://www.amptoons.com/blog/2012/02/19/rachel-swirskys-reflections-on-2012-online-jan-1-feb-15/).

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED:

“Calibrated Allies” by [livejournal.com profile] mrissa (Beneath Ceaseless Skies) – An intricately plotted story about what happens when a free man from an enslaved culture (equivalent to our Carribean) goes to the Fatherland to study automata and encounters a rebellion instead. This one didn’t get me emotionally, although the character work is done well enough and I did like him, but it’s intellectually engaging and an interesting story qua story.

Oh, no! Feel better soon.

In a perfect world, "well enough to get propped up on the couch and watch clever television" ought to be a very easy bar to reach. It sucks that that isn't the case.

Oy. Does this mean that the revisited medication isn't working out this time?

*worries about you*

I felt I had better take time/energy to answer this one so people's worries are not misplaced. New med sucks entirely predictably and is intersecting rather badly with a virus I picked up. This is quite a bit of short-term misery and not a particular long-term worry.

Okay. Thank you. Now go back to storing up time & energy...

Thank you for clarifying.

*scowls horribly at virus* Yeah, that'll work.

I can see how that might be the case.

Sorry it's intersected your life, though.
