They changed the formulation on my shampoo--without labeling it, I might add, so I bought several bottles I will now be donating to a shelter--and now it makes my hair nasty. Since this is the opposite of the point of shampoo, I had to go pick out a different shampoo. I hate that process, smelling the different shampoos in Target until I find one I don't hate, then taking it home and seeing if it works, lather, rinse--oh. Yes. Lather, rinse, repeat: okay then.

Anyway: the success condition here, which I have been living with for a few days, involves feeling like someone is following me around the house, because no matter where I go, there's something that does not smell like me. That smells like someone's shampoo. But not mine. I look forward to this period being over. I just want to turn around and demand, "What?", but of course it's only my own hair following me. Well. A few more days I guess.

I'm dreading the day that Josh's wonderful discontinued shaving cream finally runs out and he has to switch brands. I bought up all I could find. Because Josh + his shaving cream = smells like Josh, and Josh + any other shaving cream = "who is this kissing me?!".

I am very annoyed with markgritter's deodorant, because they have labeled the blue smell with green labeling and the green smell with blue labeling. I know very well what color markgritter smells, but I always have to remember that they have it wrong on the package if I'm doing the shopping, or else I will have that sort of unwanted confusion.

That happened with my husband's aftershave -- they up and quit making it. I bought some on eBay but that's all there is now. Maybe I can hope for Vermont Country Store to bring it back in some retro way.

As far as shampoo, I switch so often that I don't even know what I normally smell like to other people. Some days it's a violet day and other days it's vanilla, sometimes apple ... We have a lot of bottles.

Two random suggestions would be... *goes and looks in the bathroom* Burt's Bees and CamoCare. No idea whether Target will have them, but Frontier Natural Products Co-op (http://www.frontiercoop.com/) does.

Target does carry Burt's Bees products, but I've already picked my new shampoo--it's just a matter of getting used to it.

Somewhere I still have a couple of bottles from when my shampoo company up and discontinued my shampoo ... probably six or seven years ago now, actually. (Suave used to have several somewhat gender-neutral-scented shampoos, and I used the "Balsam" one. Then one day I went to the grocery for more, and all they had were froofy femmey things like strawberry.) The good thing about discontinuing it was that that provided some warning of the impending loss, so I was able to buy a case of it from an online drugstore that still had stock.

And then, a few years later as the supply was dwindling, it occurred to me that I ought to find a new shampoo before it ran out. However, I made the mistake of doing this well before it actually ran out -- I tried some (possibly some that suzimoses had, on grounds that it was a relatively simple Suave shampoo that didn't smell objectionable), and it worked okay, and I used that for while. And so now I have a new shampoo which now smells right, and I still have two or three bottles of the old discontinued shampoo.

On the other hand, apparently it's now selling (occasionally) on eBay at $21 a bottle.

If you're going to sell it, I'd advise selling it sooner rather than later: shampoos can go bad.

Good for you, donating disappointing personal hygiene products. Homeless shelters are always in need of shampoo, deodorant, feminine products, etc. I donate at least one disappointment every year. Along with the mittens.

I mean no offense by this: Sometimes I think it would be very bad to have your nose.

I'm not a good smeller. I certainly have never been aware of the smell of any shampoo I've ever used after rinsing it out. I think being able to smell my hair after the hair-washing was done would make me a little crazy.

I am not the least bit offended. With great something comes great something else, and while I am not Spiderman, I can easily tell you the downsides of this superpower.

I don't think I've ever had quite that extent of sensory dislocation from my hair smelling weird, but there are definitely shampoos I can't use because they smell like *someone else.* I tend to rotate through cheap things that don't smell horrible, though, and I have enough hair and a non-fussy enough scalp that my ideal condition is for my hair to smell more like me than like shampoo most of the time. Which I guess means I'm used to a transition period of a day or two after I wash my hair of thinking, "right, my hair smells funny."
