Why, oh why, oh why would reading The Disorderly Knights get me in the mood to plot my Aesir noir novel? Why?

Anyway, I like plotting, so I suppose I can't complain. Or shouldn't.

The ending of The Disorderly Knights was just glorious, just plain magnificent. Plotty and twisty and lovely. Most of you already know this, probably, but oh. So good. Will be looking for copies of this series.

Now I'm reading Summoned to Destiny, an anthology with a [livejournal.com profile] ksumnersmith story. Haven't gotten very far into it, but it seemed like the right thing to pick up at the time. My brain has had very firm notions of what I should read next and has not been informing the conscious bits of why, lately. Probably a coping mechanism for dealing with the wealth of choices after Christmas. Mmmmmm, Christmas books.

Edited To Add: Hey, [livejournal.com profile] msagara has a story in this antho, too! I didn't actually look at the ToC. I just said, "That's Karina's book!" and picked up a copy. For nifty.

Hee.

It's going to be lots of fun. Lots and lots and lots.

Our Hero And Detective, Sorkvir Sturlason, just got released from ten years of thralldom, to which he was unjustly sentenced when he was blamed for a murder one of the Aesir committed. He is not a happy kid.

Yay, book!

But your addition makes me wonder ... who did you think I meant when I said "Read Michelle's story"?

I don't know if I even parsed it. You know people I don't know and vice versa, and also I've had a few other things to do....

I'm so pleased you like the Dunnett.

As for the end of TDK, I do so adore Philippa. I also return to that book for its comparative domesticity. There's a different kind of that quality in CHECKMATE.

"a few other things to do" -- and thus you manage to get in a last-minute but very strong entry into the Understatement of the Year Award.

And a good point. I know, am friends with or have since met more than half the people in that book... So I suppose I should have said, "Read Michelle Sagara West's story! It's most excellent."

Adds The Disorderly Knights to future reading list. Aesir noir? That sounds like fun.

Philippa rocks.

Now, with typical illogic, I'm wondering how fast I can get to her other series and see if I like it too. Because, y'know, I don't have enough to read....

You have to start earlier than The Disorderly Knights, I'm afraid, with The Game of Kings, but the whole thing is worth it so far. (I still have the latter half of the series to read.)

My Aesir noir novel seems to have picked up the fun associated with that universe, even if it's 400 years later, and even if Loki has been chained by the beginning of it. (Not having Loki chained yet makes for a more fun book, I think. I'm always more interested in the bits before they really have their falling out, when he's hauling Thor around in ladies' dresses and the like.)

And you know what she didn't do that sucks when other people do it? She didn't do that damned "look it's art and there's magic and we artists are so damned maaaaagical, just look at the maaaaagic in our artistic sooooooouls."

Ahem. This may be something of a backhanded compliment. Sorry.
