mrissa: (sir you astonish)

1. Apex Magazine’s June issue is out, and in it my short story The Salt Path. Go, read, enjoy. This is one of the good times when I went back and reread it and discovered that I actually did write the story I wanted to write. It’s in the same mental framework as my Tor.com stories have been, in case that matters to somebody other than me.

(Okay, in case it matters to somebody other than me and Alec and Timprov.)

2. Speaking of Timprov, now that the Kickstarter has succeeded, those of you who didn’t get in on it–or possibly didn’t order enough copies of the book or prints–can pre-order copies of the book or order copies of prints here.

3. Speaking of things that are shiny and gorgeous, Elise is having a shiny sale. I have already bought some of the wonders, but I generously left some for you! See how I am nice to you and want you to be happy? Go. Be happy.

Hurrah, The Salt Path!

I am so glad that these stories have been getting traction.

I thought The Salt Path might be in that same world because of the war and the dreams! It's neat to get these new little self contained glimpses into something so clearly bigger.

Thanks! Right now I have no idea whether one of the pieces I am working on will ever be a bigger picture or whether we will all just deal with this as mosaic. For your reference, there are two more sold and forthcoming (one to Apex and one to Lightspeed), with some more written and on various editorial desks and others in the pipeline.

Yay! I've liked all the ones I've read so far, so more is delightful.
In this case I think I am just as happy if the "something bigger" is a sparkling sprawl of mosaic stories that share a mental framework as I am if it is a longer or continuous piece (either or both are good!). What I love is the sense I get as a reader that the world and the people keep going past the edges of the stories.

Very much so. This is one of those mindsets/worlds I can answer questions about nearly endlessly, but it's dangerous, because that leads to more story pretty inevitably.

They are tonally nearly polar opposite of the Carter stories and yet have the identical "everything is there when I reach for it" feeling and also the identical "oh crap now I have to write down another one please excuse for another four thousand words today" feeling.

I managed to not let the poisoned lilacs and the chief of staff's modified middle daughter run away with me while I needed to be off with [livejournal.com profile] papersky and Ada yesterday. So that was a triumph of sorts.
