I feel like the analysis of "this felt more like the opening of a novel..." which you opened with is an important one, though it rightly wasn't the focus here.

Oh, that was fascinating; thank you. Some of your suggestions can also be turned around, I think, and used by people who have a lot of trouble writing short stories; that is, what sticks things together also delineates them.

I was also interested to find out about the visual image that inspired or partially inspired "The Salt Path." I cannot get that story out of my head. It's so unlike anything else. I mean, it's a Mrissa story all right, but aside from that.
