Week of January 30-February 5

Nothing. Nothing whatsoever. No acceptances, no rejections, no faint mumbles. Nothing.

I'm going to replace a character with an historical personage about which little is known. You would think that I could just do this -- there aren't any deeply psychological scenes with the character, and as I said, little is known about the historical personage. (He was assistant to the MI6 head of section in Helsinki in the early 1950s. Not really the sort of guy who gets huge bios written of him.) And yet I find that they are quite different people in my head, and even removing the entirely fictional one does not let me map his dialog onto the historical one. Silly writerbrain.

In other news, please don't expect me to have an opinion about football or commercials tomorrow. I don't care if you do and won't whine about it if you muse about either and it pops up on my friendspage. But don't expect me to watch and care, because I don't intend to. Cranky like that, I guess. Much more interested in running off and getting Russian food than in anything officially deemed Super.

Laura has become Lucy with only a few minor changes, but she's a minor character. But apparently Hugh Latimer is just not Rex Bosley, nor vice versa. (Rex Bosley is the historical personage. I would never name a fictional character Rex Bosley. It's too...too.)

I'm actually not having problems in that direction, surprisingly enough. He's got a non-moustachio-twirling personality in my head, very thin-lipped and sarcastic. But Latimer wasn't like that, so.

The Superbowl is tomorrow, right? I expect to be in a car, driving from Winnipeg to Minneapolis. I expect traffic to be light.

Hope your weather is better than ours was last year when we tried to drive home during the Superbowl. Paul Douglas The Weather Guy predicted a rain-snow mix for this afternoon and evening. Hope it misses you entirely.

Looking at the weather report, it looks like we'll be okay. If not, we'll just take it slowly.

I don't even plan to watch the game, halftime show or commercials either lol...I am so not a footbal fan (that and I don't get local channels on the dish so I am really picky about what I watch on the networks).

I think growing up in Nebraska makes people go one way or the other about football. There's very little room for indifference there!

There's a third way too: to care about the college sport, but not for the pro sport. That's how it was for basketball, growing up in NC; and near as I can tell, nobody cares too much about the Charlotte Hornets now that the novelty of having a pro team around has worn off.

My primary opinion about the Super Bowl is that it's a great time to get writing work done here at the library, since nobody comes in, and that my Mrs. might be able to leave work early for the same reason.

My secondary opinion is that football characters make great literary punching bags.
