Dear Single Line Halfway Through Chapter 6,

Don't you go implying a-whole-nother book at me, missy!

No, I didn't infer it, you implied it, so don't try to play dumb.

Because this book isn't in A-flat major, that's how I know it's a different book completely! Also this book doesn't smell like lake ice!

Yes, I know I like books that smell like ice better. But that's not the book you're in, is it, so you'd best mind your p's and q's. (Yes, I know, there are three p's in you and no q's. Hush.)

I brought you into this world, and I can take you out of it.*

Reluctant (shiny!) love,
Me

*Who knew my mom's favorite not-really-mad line from my teen years applied to prose as well?

You synaesthetics are very interesting people.

Does it count as synaesthesia when it's an object that only exists in your own head?

I'd like a book in the key of pork chops, please.

Oh dear. I don't think the key of pork chops can support more than a short story from me.

Well, in the key of pig, then. So much to choose from. As Herr Bourdain says, "All meals lead to pig."

Heh. Next time I write you an entire book, I promise it will be in the key of pig.

Speak roughly to your nascent book
And beat it as you pleases
It only does it to annoy
Because it knows it teases

It does tease. Wretched thing. But it has gears and levers in it, and lenses, and the aforementioned frozen lakes, so I will let it stay.

There is lake ice! There are Pork Chops! They play hockey!

No pork chops!

Possibly julienned pork strips cooked with calvados. But no pork chops!

Be firm but polite.

Address the book respectfully.

"That is a good idea. Thank you. I will consider writing that at some point in the future."

(Same thing just happened to me, except instead of an idea in a line, it was plot summary in a paragraph. Feh. These books! Who do they think they are?)

I firmly but politely noted down what I knew in the notes file in case I needed to refer to it later in this book and didn't have it immediately to hand then.

Then I went back to writing the book I'm writing.

I am not at all surprised that your books are a bit uppity sometimes.

Dear Moi's Character,

Moi is in a meeting with other characters right now. If you'd leave your name, contact information, and a brief description of what this is about, Moi will get back to you when she has the time to give you the attention you deserve. Thanks for your patience.

Sincerely,

One of these days I'm going to have to go buy myself a real chocolate doughnut. You keep reminding me that I like them.

*giggles*

I have lines in my journals that wander off into fiction like that.

You hear music and smell things when you write? Iiiiinteresting.

Hear music. Umm. That is possibly an oversimplification of what's actually going on here.

I hear singing and there's no one there
I smell blossoms and the trees are bare
All day long I seem to walk on air
I wonder why
I wonder why
I keep tossing in my sleep at night
And what's more I've lost my appetite
Stars that used to twinkle in the skies
Are twinkling in my eyes
I wonder why

(Blame Irving Berlin, not me.)

Col, you can't go through your life blaming Irving Berlin for everything!

Well, all right, I guess you can.
